Working as a bartender is challenging due to raised emotions expressed by customers. Since alcohol contributes to aggressive behaviors, such as anger, bouts of hysteria, and verbal abuse, customers might be a deterrent factor towards showing perfect emotional labor. I can recall I had a verbal confrontation with a customer who had refused to settle his bill in full claiming that I was overcharging him. This kind of behavior got to my nerves because any loss that I would have incurred would have been deducted straight from my monthly salary. I composed myself and failed to hit back. My position as the bartender aligned with the need to manage feelings and emotions taking into understanding the kind of customers that one is dealing with.
I felt betrayed and disrespected since I offered a perfect and respectful service to the customer. Although he began showing signs of frustrations immediately, he arrived at the premises, I maintained calm and responded to his demand without complaints. The only aspect that angered me is his arrogance. Still, I understood that a bartender must be emotionally flexible in responding to arrogant clients with imbalanced emotions due to different social issues that drain the morality away from people. Interacting with intoxicated customers can be trying concerning the ordeal I faced, but I learned to apply perfect composure as my strength towards adhering to the requirements of emotional labor.

The situation contributed to my level of positive composure and tolerating different people in the society regardless of their emotional or physical state. My response towards the client was perfect since it contributed to improved emotional balance and emotional intelligence which is most of the time lacking in such situations leading to ugly outcomes. An ideal engagement in emotional labor leads to socioeconomic growth as well as professional growth which prepares an individual to work in any form of environment whether hostile of conducive. I therefore don’t regret working in such an environment as it moulded me into a person who can control his emotions which makes it to work with people of different personalities.
