Numerous factors have been identified as the major contributors of criminal activities and they include poverty, learning disabilities, and broken family structures, having access to drugs and weapons, presence of criminal members in the neighborhood, and having some criminal characters within the family among others.

A broken family structure is a major factor that contributes to criminal activities. According to scholarly evidence, the loss of capacity among mothers and fathers has led to crime explosion in most societies (Lab, 2016). Parents have failed to provide guidance and love that is needed within families and the impact is felt at community level. Most young men and woman from broken families are likely to exploit their neighbors and society at large, to satisfy their unmet desires and needs.

Poverty contributes to criminal activities and especially when individuals have to struggle to get basic needs (Lab, 2016). In most third world countries, people are forced by circumstances to struggle to get food for survival. Eventually, the resolve to join criminal gangs and becomes thieves to survive.

Having access to drugs and weapons contributes to crime within societies. Arguably, people who use drugs too much are likely to commit crimes to finance their habits, and in some cases they use firearms (Lab, 2016). In the same vein, under substance influence, such individuals are likely to use weapons to commit crime.

Individuals tend to join in criminal activities out of influence from the presence of criminal members in the neighborhood (Lab, 2016). Children who have been brought up in a neighborhood infested with criminals are likely to become criminals.

Studies indicate that, having some criminal characters within the family can have an impact on children, and they might become criminals in future. When parents or close family members partake in crime, young children are likely to be affected by becoming influenced. In the same vein, when parents are alcohol addicts, they are likely to influence children, and especially male one (Lab, 2016). Early alcoholism is dangerous as it leads to abuse of drugs, and criminal behaviors creep in.
