Need for Cultural Competence Training
Increasing diverse local workforce and globalization of business requires the employees to understand cultural competence for effective work performance. Cultural competence is the ability of the employees interacting and relating with people of different cultures effectively. This ability depends on one’s level of awareness. Thus, the competence training is critical for the company so that the employees can know how to relate with other employees of other cultures. The training is beneficial for the employees because it will improve their cultural competency. The training will help the workforce to improve their intercultural understanding and communication for the success of the business. The training will also help employees reduce miscommunication that would eventually lead to employee satisfaction.
Costs Associated with the Training
The training for the employee will be conducted by professionals probably a sociology professor knowledgeable on matters of culture and cultural diversity. The presenter must as well have experience of teaching cultural competence for more than five years in different cultural contexts. Preferably, he/she must have worked in the United States of America, Australia, and Canada where company Z considers expanding its operations. The initiative would require the organization to spend some money to hire the professionals for the training that would be scheduled to take 2-hrs a day within the company boardroom. The training will take place, during the lunch hour time to encourage more employees to attend. It will be scheduled to run for three days so that the employees cover full six-hour training in which they train 2hrs a day for three days. The compensation for each of the two professionals will be $30 per hour. The fact that the training will take 6hrs; the total cost for the professionals will be $180. Furthermore, the training will incur expenses as a result of printing materials for the employees, and for offering them writing materials. The approximated value is a total of $300. The company will also incur the cost of providing the employee with beverages, as an incentive to motivate them to remain present till the training is over. Thecost of the drinks is estimated to be $ 100.
Anticipated Problem and Solution
The primary expected challenge is staff attendance. It is anticipated that majority of the employees will not attend the training due to personal reasons. Cultural linguistic and language barrier could be another issue that will lead to reduced staff attendance. The fact that the training will be optional may make other employees opt not to attend. The problems can be solved by promoting the training within the organization and highlighting the importance of attending the training for individual developments and overall company performance.
