The author clearly states that any work of action usually takes a certain process in development. Mavis shows that for her, the process starts with general ideas of the character existing in a very simple setting. The next step does not occur to her until a few days. This involves assigning the characters some characteristics such as names, nationality, marital status, and state of mind that are in line with the story. This is followed by the concept of the characteristics having a dialogue compounded upon by the author. I find these steps of coming up with a work of fiction as interesting. In most cases, the expectation is that the author would start with themes or the topic that he or she wants to talk about. Mavis shows that the characters are in her control and she can change them at will depending on what she wants to achieve.
The other interesting concept that is informative from the video is that for one to write well, and then the prospective writer has to learn to read widely. It is evident that writers learn from each other, which explains other writers can appreciate Mavis’ competency as a writer. In most cases, the ideas that a writer describes can be influenced by the views of other writers.

Question 2
I agree with the view that it is possible to put a great deal of fictional information on a short story. Mavis is one of the authors who has been able to implement the use of fictional richness in a short story. Mavis shows that the author is in control of the character and can change for the characters to fit the message that the author wants to deliver ( Cox, 2016) . Looking at the work written by Mavis, one can understand the fictional richness in her short stories. Also, agree with the view that for one to be an effective writer, then he or she has to read widely. It is from reading widely that the author can understand some of the styles used by other writers. Reading widely is essential to understanding how well to reach the audience. Although Mavis expected an audience, she did not expect to have a large audience as she attained. In my understanding, the writer needs to understand the target audience as a way of designing the message in a way that it has a bigger impact.
Questions 3
Watching the video helps in understanding the passion that Mavis had for writing. As described in the video, Mavis had a good job but left it all behind to go to Paris and follow her passion for writing. Mavis herself explains that if one is a writer, then he or she will write no matter what. The video shows that other writers due to the richness of her fictional short stories respect Mavis (Cox, 2016). The respect comes from the notion that she was able to publish at a time when it was hard to get a story or a novel published in Canada. Watching the video enables the person watching understand the steps used in developing a good story. Mavis’ way of developing a story is a unique way that every writer can embrace to make use of fictional richness in the short story. Although it was hard for one to have novels published in Canada when Mavis was writing her stories, she was able to have an impact and draw a considerable audience to her short stories.
