It also guarantees the sharing of information among clinicians that can act to improve the health of the patient by increasing consistency and efficiency. It also enables all other clinicians to access information relating to the nursing department in what is referred to as interoperability.

A standardized terminology can be described as a common nomenclature or language by extension that is consistent with a certain group of users ( Häyrinen et al . 2010). The use of such terminologies in healthcare is important to document the assessment of clients and other outcomes efficiently. Without the use of these consistent terminologies the impacts of nursing care on patients risks going unnoticed and unrecognized. The terminologies are vital in developing the nursing knowledge base. The terminologies will foster the development of the knowledge base by enhancing access a factor that will improve the evidenced-based management in nursing practice.
