I would advise the candidate to adopt “Full Practice Authority for Nursing Practitioners: Improving Healthcare for Good” as his health care tagline in the course of his campaigns. The priority I believe should be the focus of the healthcare platform is the enrollment of more nurses. There is evidence of the short-staffing of health care workers in various hospitals in the U.S (Barsanti et. al ., 2017). Short-staffing impacts negatively on the hospital’s level of productivity, health care practitioners, and on their respective patients. Service quality suffers in instances where fewer health care workers are available to attend to huge number of patients. These practitioners may be forced to work faster to manage a high volume of patients; this leads to increase in the level of stress among health care providers, errors during practice which in turn, affects the overall quality of services provided.

Baby boomers are also creating one of the most substantial demands in the sector of health care. Data retrieved from the Census Bureau in the U.S. reveals that the current number of baby boomers totals an estimated value of 76.4 million. Aging results to the development of ineluctable diseases and an increased long-term need for health care. As the populace grows older, the demands for health care will increase and this will impact both primary care and generalist physicians (Barsanti et. al ., 2017).

The primary care workload is projected to increase by approximately 29 percent by the year 2030. A significant number of the primary care physicians are among the members of the baby boomer generation. Within the next 20 years, three million baby boomers will reach their retirement age yearly and this will subsequently generate increased shortages in the healthcare workforce. Studies conducted by AAMC indicates that the country will run short of approximately 91,500 physicians by the year 2020. The studies also projected a growth in the shortage of RN to approximately 260,000. Nurse practitioners have unfolded as an effective practical remedy for the physician shortage. Studies exhibit that nurse practitioners provide an equivalent or even better care than physicians and at a preferably low cost. The expansion in the recruitment of nurse practitioners especially as primary care providers will impact positively on the increasing rise in physician shortages (Barsanti et. al ., 2017).
