Both the functionalist view and the conflict theory have similar thoughts regarding ascribed status in the society. Both approaches believe that someone acquires ascribed status by merely being born. Therefore, both theories agree that the ascribed status is essential in the positioning of a person in the society they live.
However, both the conflict theory and functionalism have different views on stratification. Conflict theorists view the wages at work as different because of a person's status such as the social, economic background while the functionalist theorists view the same as differences in the skills of the people and nothing to do with their statuses in the society. The conflict theorists believe that social stratification is because the owners of the resources such as businesses controlling one another and is, therefore, a disadvantage. On the same, the functionalism theorists believe that social stratification is an advantage since it motivates the people to work for their living in the different societal stratifications.

Social interaction leads to the development of fair competition among the people in a particular society.
