The trends in labor force composition including the aging population, diverse workforce and deficiencies in skills are affecting the management of human resource. The trends in the external market have signif8cant impact on the options of the organization for establishing an internal labor force that is well skilled and motivated therefore, it is crucial for the HR professionals to have knowledge. The aging workforce affects the HR in many ways including they spend much time on factors associated with motivating, retaining, and retirement planning for older workers. In addition, the organization may have challenges in controlling the increasing health care costs among other benefits and the managers of tomorrow will have to supervise employees who are much older than they are. Moreover, the growing diverse workforce in terms of gender, ethnic, and racial factors poses challenges on HR professionals because they have to put in place measures that would ensure they accommodate all the diverse aspects of these population. Consequently, the deficiencies in skills have resulted in development of a gap between the required and the available skills, which has decreased the ability of companies to have a competitive edge.
From the readings, I have learnt that the three branches of the U.S. government helps to establish a legal environment for the HRM. These include the Judicial, executive, and legislative branch. The legislative branch has created laws that govern the activities of the HR. The executive branch has the responsibility of implementing laws approved by the Congress, and the judicial branch interprets the laws and holds trials in cases where employment laws are violated. One of the major aim of having legal environment to regulate the HRM is to create an equal employment opportunity for all people in the U.S. The efforts of the government to establish EEO have been enhanced through court decisions, which interpret the law, the executive orders, legislation, and constitutional amendments.
