Initiation and Preparation
Merging a healthcare system comes with new challenges as the healthcare facilities run differently, and managing both of them may be difficult. The merging will facilitate the changes in the mission and the vision statements to ensure the various departments align with the goals of the organization. This paper will discuss the merger of St. Catherine’s Medical Center, St. Luke’s Hospital, and Hickman Community Hospital and the potential challenges that may be faced.
Summary
The shared mission statements among the three HIM department is striving for the provision of health information to all the stakeholders in the healthcare department. The common vision among the three departments is to provide the patients with their health information while ensuring that they maintain the required privacy confidentiality. The mission statements miss the element of urgency to access their health information; the statement should include the urgency so that the patients can be assured of getting the relevant data on time. The vision statement lacks the aspect of providing accurate data for the patients.

Compliance
To ensure that the Gateway Healthcare Systems HIM department is efficient, the faults that were present before the new management needs to be eliminated. Some of the changes made will focus on ensuring the confidentiality of the patients is maintained. No one will be allowed to access the patient’s information unless they are authorized to do so.
Diversity
The culture that affects the quality of productivity is the issue of Hickman Community Hospital that does not have diversity in ethnicity. Lack of diversity in ethnicity implies that the employees within the facility are from a particular ethnic group, and this affects the work as they may not be appealing to the patients. The other issue that affects their diversity is the issue of the physical ability among their employees (Mahmoodian et al., 2016). Without the availability of diversity in physical strength, the patients with a disability may feel the impact as there will be no staff members who will advocate for their issues. The patients may suffer as the employees within the medical facility may not be familiar with their struggles.
St Luke Hospital also has the issue of diversity as they are not diverse in many aspects expect the age diversity. According to Holtrop et al. (2019), the problem may be a challenge as the workplace is more efficient when the employees are diverse since they can bring their expertise and understanding that can be beneficial to the patients who are also varied. St Catherine’s Medical Center is more diversity among the three hospitals as their employees are from various ethnic groups, and they all meet the qualification criteria for their recruitment and selection process.
Mission and Vision
After the analysis of the mission and vision statement of the three HIM departments and identifying the weakness and suggesting the improvements to be made, the new mission and vision statement of the Gateway Healthcare Systems HIM department are as below.
The Gateway Healthcare Systems HIM department Mission: To provide healthcare information to the stakeholders of healthcare and to ensure that the patients’ confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Gateway Healthcare Systems HIM department Vision: To meet the needs of the healthcare information while maintaining the privacy confidentiality of the patients.
SWOT Analysis
One of the strengths of the HIM department is that the information can be accessed quickly and share among the medical practitioners. The other advantage is that it reduces duplicate testing done at the laboratories, thereby preventing errors (Holtrop et al., 2019). The weakness of the HIM department is that most of the secretaries have no training; thus, they will have challenges in the implementation of the electronic health record.
The other weakness is that its introduction will increase the work overload of the employee. Thereby their job satisfaction may reduce. The opportunities of the HIM department are that training can be done to ensure that there are no errors. The other opportunity is the opportunity to link the contained systems to a new system (Shahmoradi et al., 2017). The threat of the HIM department is the resistance to adopt the new system as some practitioners may feel that the process may be tiresome.
Conclusion
The merging of the three HIM departments is a tough challenge, but through the employment of the right strategies, the process can be successful. It is essential to study and eliminate the weakness as it helps in improving the HIM department and ensure that the patients are satisfied with the services provided.
