Economists have studied the differences in the wages between men and women since the 1960s. The findings are that even in the most developed nations, women continue to earn less for the same work done by their counterpart males. If men and women do the same work, the expectation should be that the earnings are 100%, but it is not as such. According to the US Bureau of Statistics, the median female earnings are four-fifths of median male earnings over a year round. One wonders why then there should be a gender gap in 2018 when all that we are fighting for is gender equality.

One important consideration to make is that the gender gap was way bigger in the past than that. Although we are not at the 100 percent ratio which we all deserve, we are not far away as we were in 1950. In 1950, women in the United States were earning half of what men used to earn for the same job. It must have been frustrating to be a woman in 1950 in the United States and even worse in the developing nations. Those women are earning close enough to what men earn does not mean that we sit comfortably. The truth is, the earnings should be equal for the same task completed. As a result, women must talk, so must men. Men must be in the front row for the fight of equal rights as far as pay is concerned.

Our little girls must be assured of level playing ground, and the political class must be alive to the fact that still, some women earn far less than they should. As such, this is a challenge that the grip on fair pay is made stronger. Anyone in this auditorium must run with the motto that it is time to pay everyone their deserved amount, their gender notwithstanding.
