The reason for bringing together a group of co-workers to create a project team is to make use of the positive potential derived from the unique attributes each generation could bring to the team. To have a successful project, there is a need to form a strong team. According to Zemke, Raines, and Filipczak (2000), having multiple generations allows individuals to learn from each other and listen to the differing viewpoints on similar ideas. I chose Baby Boomer because they are optimistic and ambitious, and these traits would help ensure they give the best in this project and achieve the desired results. I chose Generation x because they are task-oriented and risk-takers, and this would be beneficial to the project since they would ensure they finish the assignment and do whatever it takes to get the best results. I chose Generation Y because they love working in groups, have highly valued skills, especially in the digital field, and love sharing knowledge with other people. They have diverse information, and thus they would contribute significantly towards generating ideas that would help with improving the organization’s technology, which will effectively meet customer’s needs.

I have experienced generational conflict at my workplace. Being a millennial, I used to believe that I can be productive as long as I get the tasks done. I believed there is no need for restrictions to be in the office from 9-5. However, my manager, who was a baby boomer, used to insist we observe the time set by the organization. He required us to be in the office on time in the morning and leave work in the evening at the specified time.

Although I used to have an idea of the existing theories on different generations, I did not understand how the multiple generations may influence different aspects of the workplace. After reading the topic of generations, I perceived it simply as diversity and thus helped me to eliminate the existing stereotypes that I held previously. I have learned that the descriptions of generations helped understand why people from different generations hold differing values. Each individual comes into the workplace with different life views, perspectives, and experiences, which is essential in the organization because it brings in new and different ideas that are beneficial to the growth of the company
