Genetic modification of organisms is one of the richest concepts in science and the future of humankind. With genetic modification, people can grow specific food’s even when they are off season and their life expectancy can be stretched further. The human body gets altered by GMOs once ingested in food or on drugs. With the current advancement in biotechnology, people can easily get the nutrients they need through foods and drugs engineered within laboratories. Despite the fact that the GMOs are engineered for the benefit of people, there are both positive and negative effects of these products.

First, it is important to note that the human population is constantly growing. Consequently, most farmland is either being used for housing or developing infrastructure. GMOs come in handy when supplying food for such a huge population. With GMOs, people are guaranteed to have food and medication, despite overpopulation. People are also guaranteed that their life expectancy will expand further due to the advancement in medicine. Biotechnology has made it very easy for experts to manipulate bacteria to the advantage of people’s health. Consequently, people live longer even when pathogens become a problem.

The biggest disadvantage of GMOs is that their existence may be the cause of several chronic diseases. The modified organism may have an effect than that expected. For instance, the products used in cow feed to make them grow faster for profits end up in people’s diets. The consequences seen so far are diseases such as cancer, the prevalence in the rates of obesity, and increased in body toxicity. Currently, there are cases of antibiotic resistance that hinders the growth of the medical field.
