George Washington and Sojourner Truth: A Historical Perspective

Introduction 

George Washington will never cease being America’s hero given the hard times the country has been through. Washington born in 1732 came from a rough country in Virginia. Due to his military background and ambitious nature, it was inevitable for his leadership into the New York continent (Krensky & Clay, 2008). Having lost his father, Washington was groomed by Lawrence, who later on died of tuberculosis. At the age of 20, he was able to transform into Virginia’s prominent first president. During his reign he valued farming as the most valuable profession; since the late father practiced farming. Being a federalist, Washington advocated for a strong central government to keep the nation stable by enacting defense policies as well as preserving the country from the escalating tension between France and England. From the historical perspective, the portfolio project tackles Washington’s historical personality in the context of Sojourner Truth whose aim was to promote human rights, women equality as well as abolishing slavery. 

Sojourner Truth 

Slaves in New York were liberated in 1827 after the commencement of negotiations as early as 1799. The move did not come rapidly for Truth. After Dumont had defaulted to deliver the callings as required as at 1826, she managed to take refuge with Sophia (Dayton,& Salinger,2014).Due to her agitation for black people to have their civil rights, she advocated for women equality by abolishing slavery in the state. Equally, after she was freed, she introduced the most powerful example in the country in advocating for women civil rights as well as the equality of women; since they were raped during slavery.

Historical Perspectives 

From Washington’s great patriotism and determination for his country, he was in a position to attain independence for the United States. Notably, he was able to establish new governments as the first president, and the same time created the United States Constitution. Besides, they were to grant citizens in their US independence as a state and participate in the events easily. For instance, the Americans had suffered a great deal during the wars and attacks from England. For that matter, he worked tirelessly on bringing independence to the lives of the Americans. That a side, he established the constitutions and new governments that enhanced democracy in America. As a result, Americans acquired liberation. 

Eliminating slavery 

From Washington’s patriotism for his country, Sojourner was able to agitate for civil human rights for the black people in America. The fact that George’s motives for creating peace and human rights, the same way Sojourner's aims were also to free the blacks that had been recruited into slavery. Many African people had been dragged into slavery including truth’s son. After attaining freedom, she was able to challenge the legality of his son who had suffered from slavery. In this way, she was able to rescue the blacks that were suffering during that time. For instance, women and young girls were being raped during slavery. It was this torture and suffering for human life that motivated her to agitate for human rights through freeing the blacks. For instance, Truth was able to join the Northampton association of education and industry to in the fight for abolition and human rights. As a result, the organization granted her the aggression to abolish slavery. 

Eliminating Inequalities 

Just like the first president of the US, Sojourner worked hard to promote equality in New York. Notably, during the 1851 speech, she advocated for women emancipation. The speech was to encourage the value of women and grant them equality just like any other citizen in New York. During her term, she called sought political equality for females. For instance, during the extemporaneous speech, she kept questioning the audience if she was not a woman. Equally, she endeavored to create a conducive atmosphere by challenging the white men in court during the advocating of human rights blacks in particular. As such, it was to grant women emancipation and civil rights to participate in similar activities as men and other responsibilities in New York. 

Advocacy during the Civil War 

Just like George trained his military team to prepare them for sudden attacks from England and French, Truth worked tirelessly during the civil war. Notably, truth helped in recruiting the black troops from the union army. Ideally, she did so due to the patriotism that she has had for her fellow Africans in America. Besides, she secured part of the land that had been owned by the federal government for the former slaves that had suffered a great deal. On the same note, the acquired land would grant the blacks independence and protect them from American hostility regarding acts of segregation ownership of resources. As such, it is through her advocacy that blacks acquired and owned part of the resources in America as well as getting freed. 

Importance of the Sojourner Truth in the US History 

Sojourner played a prominent role in eliminating racism in the US. The black Americans had been segregated and tortured the fact that they were immigrants. Ideally, it is this background that enticed Truth to advocate for equality both for women and all black men in America. She further established movements to advocate for civil human rights. The movements were to fight, and grants equal opportunities of property ownership as well as equal participation in politics. For instance, Truth became enthusiastic by devoting his life as Methodism and elimination of suppression. As such, Truth remains an American hero; since she played a vital in the US history. 

Similarly, Sojourner helped in the revising of the American policies; since their attitude towards the black Americans. After the success of Truth in the abolition of slavery, blacks got a chance to be considered human beings given the agitation of truth towards civil human rights. Besides, Washington George encouraged the citizens to remain friendly and peaceful to everyone. Ideally, the policy helped create a state of a joint government with same goals and objectives. On the same note, policies against racism and discrimination were revised to provide a conducive environment for the black Americans who were putting up in the US. As a result, US was able to come up with new policies as regards promoting equality and interactions between the Americans and the blacks. 

Role of the Sojourner in Daily Life 

Truth played a prominent role in implementing peace, and unity for one another in the United States(De, 2014). Through the strenuous activities and organizations she established with the aim of creating peace and harmony, the US was able to build new constitutions that would help citizens develop a sense of understanding to one another. Ideally, the lives of black Americans had been miserable due to the massive suffering the time of slavery. However, Truth having rescued the blacks, it opened the US eyes on how to implement human right need to enhance equality for all people despite their origin and background. 

Equally, the event helped in understanding the value of women in politics; since Truth advocated for equality of women in the policy. The fact that she was a leader herself and appreciated women in all forms. Women had been mistreated previously in slavery(Truth, & Gilbert, 2012). Notably, women being raped and kidnapped during slavery. It is this background that Sojourner agitated for human right particularly for women. Equally, the US advocated for woman emancipation after realizing the role women hold in the community. Given the miles Truth had gone in creating equality for females, the US was in a position of embrace the act and involved women equal rights in politics. As such, it signified the implementation of the women emancipation in engaging in the policy. 

Long Term Impact of Slavery on the Black Americas 

Depression 

During the event of slavery, black families were robbed, kidnapped and spoiled. Even after they were rescued from slavery, their lives have impacted the fact their lives did not remain the same. The situation created uncomfortable moments; since the blacks were separated from their loved ones. For instance, during slavery, there was a distortion of families by separating children from their parents, wives from their husbands and other relatives. In this way, Africans got depressed; since their family structure was distorted (Truth & Gilbert, 2016). Equally, even after the implementation of women emancipation rights, the blacks would not fully acquire the expected rights. As a result, it created a long term depression; since they were not given proper attention and treatment. 

Drug Abuse 

Due to the long term involvement in slavery by the blacks, crime escalated. Among the persistent acts committed by the black Americans includes the use of drugs, teenage pregnancy, and high school dropouts (Dayton & Salinger, 2014). Ideally, it is this background that forced the blacks to engage in substance abuse as a means of mitigating stress and depression that was experienced during slavery. For instance, the black American rap artists through media show in their lyrics that the blacks are still suffering. In this way, the event will never wash away the stress, but instead, entice them to engage in drugs as a way of releasing stress from their segregation from Americans. 

Independence 

Blacks were able to attain independence and own part of American property. She was able to secure land that was owned by the federal government for the blacks that had been rendered homeless. As such, it is this background that Africans got an opportunity to acquire land and own part of the property. Equally, the blacks got the chance of engaging in political affairs after the campaign against slavery. For instance, President Barack Obama a black American was able to take the presidential seat of the United States of America. Remarkably, it is the through the slavery event that made Truth agitate for equality among all the Americans. 

Conclusion 

To summarize, through the sojourner, black Americans were able to attain equality, woman emancipation, and civil rights. Truth majorly performed these activities following the historical perspective of George Washington. However, the slavery event did not only consequently impact on the lives of blacks but also helped the black Americans get independence through principles regarding women equality, human rights as well as acquiring ownership over the US property. Although it is alleged black Americans still experience harsh conditions in America, their lives had not remained the same way they were before the truth came to rescue them. Therefore, Truth played a significant role in saving the lives of black American under the leadership of George Washington.
