It is said that if one thinks education is expensive then they should try ignorance. Sociologists are of the idea that the problems the world faces today are on the rise principally because the society has chosen to ignore them. The cases of terrorism, hunger, environmental imbalances and ethnic discrimination are fast becoming part of the society because many people choose to ignore these problems (Cates, 2016). Global education that entails the teaching of foreign languages and cultures is the most effective way of curbing these problems and giving the sanity back to the society today. 

Purpose Statement and Scope of Problem 

The following paper seeks to describe the problems associated with ignorance in the society arising from a lack of appreciation of other languages and cultures leading to the major problems of the society today.

Scope of Problem 

It is extremely important that the society as a whole interacts with each other to lead to a new front that will enable people to look at themselves and relate by finding a common ground hence solve problems. The world is experiencing chaotic uprisings such as terrorism and environmental calamities that ensure the world is fostered into deep problems. According to Cates (2016 ), the current world does not appreciate each other in terms of culture and as such it becomes very easy for people to hate and resent one another as compared to sharing and indulging in the beautiful cultural diversity. 

Problems 

The main problem is the ethical fibre of the society that people live in today. All the aforementioned problems facing occurring in the world today have an ethical backing and it is the job of every individual to care. However, it seems that this is not the case with many people today. Many teachers of language find it a wrong to just stick the information they have in their heads and textbooks and assume the aforementioned problems are non-existent. The idea of professionals having the moral stance and responsibility in a society dates back to the Hippocratic Oath experienced in the ancient times in Greece when doctors swore to apply their skills doing good for the whole society (Cates, 2016). The past twenty years have been characterised by an increase in the number of professionals working towards solving problems via research in the field of multicultural and language research, political action and the public in general. 

The second problem is the nature of education in the society that forces students and people in the current world to ignore their responsibilities in forging peace, justice and have an active concern for the problems that face the world. It is thus imperative that foreign languages and multicultural studies be emphasized in academic institutions to ensure the world has a shared ground when it comes to concern for the problems it faces (Cates, 2016). It is the primary reason for the increased levels of terrorist activities and injustices in the society with people not being able to understand the languages of other people or able to see through their cultures hence decide to ignore the calls for help from these affected persons. 

Solutions 

The most appropriate way of dealing with the problems that face the world is to facilitate the learning of foreign languages and other cultures in the world. The best means via which the education system can improve this is ensure there are programs for such studies where students are supposed to learn at least one extra language from that of their native language or speaking rather. The objectives of these programs need to be clear from the word go so as not to let students learn other languages for the solemn sake of passing tests or just for the fun that comes with these sessions (Konstantinou, 2013). The programs need to teach these cultures and languages with the sole aim of mentoring peacemakers and justice seekers that understand the need for a multicultural interaction and coexistence and as such will work towards achieving that as compared to ignoring the situation and letting it flame to greater extents. 

The UNESCO Linguapax project can be well used by language professionals to reach out to many students and people also in a bid to deal with the problems that the world faces today (Konstantinou, 2013). The project aims at establishing and going for peace in the world by appreciating different languages in the society today. It is important that this is done because it makes people smarter and allows them to digest differences and be more tolerant and appreciate as compared to the impulsive society that is very reactive today to other cultures and languages. Moreover, learning a foreign language helps people relate well and express themselves thus fostering unity in the world, one which can be capitalized on in the fight for the overall development of a globe (Konstantinou, 2013). It is well to see to it that people share on great ideas and forge peace laws and quests for the sake of the world and this can only be achieved by having foreign languages and multicultural appreciated. 

Conclusion 

The cases of terrorism, hunger, environmental imbalances and ethnic discrimination are fast becoming part of the society because many people choose to ignore these problems. Ignorance is the source of all problems the word faces today and can only be solved by teaching of foreign languages and multicultural dynamics. It is extremely important that the society as a whole interacts with each other to lead to a new front that will enable people to look at themselves and relate by finding a common ground hence solve problems.
