Approximately 767 million people globally live under adverse poverty, making less than $1.90 per day (World Bank, 2019). This infers that 10% of the global population cannot afford a healthy living anywhere in the world. Poverty affects children more with 328 million thriving under extreme poverty and at least 17 million of them suffering from acute malnutrition which leads to 1000 deaths under the age of five on a daily basis.

Among the top causes of high global poverty is inadequate access to nutritious food and clean water. With over 2 billion people lacking access to clean water at homes, this explains the reason why water insecurity and hunger remains the chief reasons why people are struggling to escape the extreme poverty. Eventually, the inadequacy of the two leads to death, caused by preventable diseases such as diarrhea.

Conflict also causes poverty levels to keep increasing in several ways. When violence is protracted in largescale, societies are ground into a halt. This is the case with Syria where infrastructure has been destroyed plunging around 70% of the whole population to living below the poverty line, a country where extreme poverty was unheard of. As a result, people end up fleeing their country, compounding the problem of world immigration.

Lastly, world inequalities of different types of fuel global poverty rates. The most notorious are economic and social inequalities, limiting the access to resources that a family requires to keep it out of poverty. For instance, education is regarded highly as a great driver of eliminating poverty. When it is unequally distributed, the doors to opportunities are shut, making the extreme poverty difficult to escape from. An estimation by UNESCO holds that education is capable of lifting 171 million people from extreme poverty if they accessed basic education ("UNESCO, 2019). Therefore the elimination of extreme poverty would provide a solution to the mentioned problems and consequently eliminate this mega challenge facing our generation.
