John Baldwin wrote the book “Going to Meet the Man” in 1965. The entire story revolves around an individual’s violent thoughts around the police brutality. It also dwells over the lynching of a black character in the book. The narrator in the bulk of this story is Jesse, where there is a telling story of the challenges that men go though in the society through series of working hard, commitments and overall sacrifices to fend for their families; however, they do not have much choice. The narrator in the story, Jesse is getting worried about the bad affairs for the black races. He gets worried about what the blacks may do in response to the assaults that have been happening in the city jails.
Jesse considers himself as a religious man of God despite his immoral role in the society. He is a corrupt officer who has been forcing eh black women through forced sexual assaults and acmes the lack of race for the rising cases of poverty in the society. He spites them and often uses the n-word when referring to them. He shows a lot of disdain against the black children and wonders whether he should have poisoned their candy before they grew up.

There is much irony that the author of the story is a black man. The society would generally not expect him to do a storyline that so much despises and lowers the black person’s dignity. However, on the flip side, the audience would forgive him for the fact that perhaps the story was the surest way of indicating the resentment that the whites showed towards the blacks back in the days. There is much irony and conflict in the story when the author tries to explain the unethical aspect of the racism, he, however, narrates how the narrator celebrates the lynching of the black man. The narrator is not a hypocrite in any way when growing up, his father who was sheriff of the town at the time showed a similar level of disdain against the blacks as well. He even regrets his childhood association with a black kid, Otis. It is indeed a sad case for this level of discrimination to exist in any society.
