Part one In the Church of the Lukumi Babalu Aye, Inc. v. Hialeah case, the city ordinances which were passed by the town of Hialeah with the aim of preventing what was termed as the merciless killing of innocent animals in connection with religious issues or Santeria rituals, were ruled as valid by the unites states of America supreme court. The main issue was whether or not the city ordinances violate the Constitution's free exercise. Santeria is a type of religion which has both Roman Catholicism and the African religion fused. This religion calls for the animal's sacrifices to a piece what they call orishas or spirits. The church was to be built in the city of Hialeah. The city council of elders was not pleased with this idea and in response; they called an emergency meeting and public session to pass three strict laws which were meant to restrict animals killing and the use of animal’s sacrifices. More specifically, these laws were to walk against Santeria rituals. To keep on pushing for their views, there was no clear voting system to pass the law, and unanimous votes passed the ordinances. The elders indicated that whoever violates this rules to be fined five hundred thousand dollars or be imprisoned for sixty days. This case was declared invalid. The rationale behind the declaration was that it was discriminating religious belief due to its undertakings without any compelling justification. It was ruled that the suppression of the religious activity or the religious purpose was the main reason why the ordinances were enacted. This according to the principal cause had no neutrality. For this reason, the laws which were passed to inhibit the religious activity were baseless and had to be ruled out. Based on the facts which were presented and the ruling which was done in this case, the case followed the issue of judicial activism. The judges interpreted Constitution of the USA to make a judgment on the contemporary value. The judges used their power to throw away the ordinances which were meant to undermine the religious practices.

Part two

The two groups who locked horns, in this case, were the religious groups and the city council of elders. The main agenda of the religious group was to enhance their religious practices and penetrate more cities, Hialeah city included. Therefore, they wanted to have one of the branches in the town, as for them, this was a common issue. However, they were met with equal force from the city council that saw them as a threat to their animals and spread of bad religious culture. The elders enacted strict laws to undermine their religious culture in the city. Both religious organization and city councils have a role in the country's politics. Religious people are icons of peace during the elections periods others. Alternatively, they help people choose wisely their leaders. On the other hand, the city councils also have influences of over some people, and they have an impact during elections. They help in mobilizing people and directing towards some political direction they think is right for the city. Moreover, both parties are influential in the country. The religious leaders are known for peacemaking while city councils are known for justices. This makes them very influential in the society. I like religious leaders for their honesty, peaceful nature and integrity; they are always preaching peace in the community. Alternatively, I like city councils since they ensure there are order, justice and peaceful coexistence in the community. One issue which was surprizing in this case was the fact that the city leaders enacted rule purposely to undermine the religious belief. This is outrageous.
