Yonkers is the fourth largest and most populous city in Winchester County, New York. Located along the Hudson River, it is at the center of both the Hudson Valley and New York City; it therefore, serves as the gateway between the two. It is considered a highly convenient location in terms of accessibility, workability, livability, and desirability, among others. Yonkers City is affordable and offers a vast range of opportunities both to individual residents and commercial investors which explains the steadily growing population and the advancing investments and projects in and around the Hudson Valley area. I chose the city for multiple reasons including the fact that I am from New York and I work in Bronx, both of my parents and from Yonkers and the need to analyze the health spectrum of the city.

The racial profile of the area proves that it is one of the most diversified cities in the entire United States. Grouping the population into various age ranges and categories produces somewhat interesting aspect of Yonkers’ residents.
In terms of the age range, approximately 25 percent of the residents are minors (below the age of 18 years). In attempt to make sense of the younger population group and link it with other parameters of the area, experts explain that the expanding range of younger population is the reason for the growing school system in and around the neighborhood even when that of other districts across the United States continues to remain the same or shrink. Youths and adults (aged between 18-65 years) make up the most population – at 40 percent ( Yonkers City Government, n.d.) . Seniors on the hand, make up only 15 percent of the population ( Yonkers City Government, n.d.) . The population is well distributed as far as age is concerned. This is because the working population (people aged between 18 and 65) make up the majority of the residents thereby economically impacting the city.
