Many questions have risen over the impact of race on the growth and development of children. Several research in the past fell short of revealing the glaring gap that exists in the contemporary society in as far as racial matters impacts on eh growth and development of children. From the research commissioned by the National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) points at a conspicuous trend in the difference in Children’s health and overall well-being. Racial and ethnic orientation has an impact on the general growth and development of children as seen from a case study of the NSCH, 2017 data obtained from Dakota in the United States of America.

Physical and Dental Health

The overall physical health of children is important for their growth. The NSCH data from Dakota indicates a massive disparity in the physical health of the children 6-17 years. On average the black children have better physical and dental health at 45% followed by Hispanic children at 26%; the white children come third at an average of 23%. The lifestyle is seen as a huge contributor to the physical and dental health of the children. The blacks have limited access to modern and harmful foods such as candy and junks that may impact on their physical health; this, however, is not the same for the white children.

Emotional and Mental Health

Emotional and mental soundness of children is a contributor to how they grow up to different roles in the future. With an average of 30% for the children with proper emotional and mental health in Dakota, the black children still carry the day at 58%. A high number of black children at the age 1-5 years plays with their age mates every day compared to just 26% of the white children. The Hispanic children are less emotionally prepared trailing at on11% on average for the emotionally trained children. The emotional and the mental stability of children is a big contributor to school performance. We can deduce that the emotional and mental unstable condition for the Hispanics and the White children is the reason for the rising cases of attempted suicide among white children in America.

Community and School Activities

The learning progress for children is determined by the ability to recall school activities. There is an average of 45% for the number of children between 6 to 17 years who have a strong school and community activities awareness. The Hispanic lead both the white and black children at an average of 46% for children who have a critical grasping of the community and school activities. The white children come second with about 43% of children who have a strong educational and community awareness. The black children, however, trail on a distant third with a mere 17% on average for the children with awareness in school and community activities. The black children could be victims of poor living conditions and inadequate learning resources that inhibit their ability to participate actively in school and community affairs.

Neighborhood Environment

The living conditions and overall safety for children is a contributor to their development and growth as indicated by the NSCH data. There is an average of 86% of American parents who feel that their children live in the safe neighborhood. The white society leads in the number of. The high data amongst the white race is due to the stable economic condition which enables them to live in leafy suburbs and proper housing. The Hispanic race has an average of 88% for parents who feel that their children live in safe neighborhood followed by black children at 84%. The black parents have low confidence in the living condition of their children owing to the fact that most of them are confined to live in the shanties and cannot afford a decent living.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, we can observe the role of race and ethnicity in the growth and development of children from the NSCH data in Dakota. For instance, due to the differing resource and economic stability of the different races in America, it is easy to say that the ethnic subgroups have different resources and benefits available to them. The white children are known to be disturbed by the modern challenges such as social media influence, whereas the Black and the Hispanics do not have much comfort. For that reason, the development of the children, health-wise, mentally, emotionally and academically is intertwined with their racial orientation.
