The US spends over 17% of its GDP on healthcare ( Preker, 2018) . The healthcare spending per capita is the highest among all developed countries. However, countries such as Switzerland spend 12% of their GDP on healthcare but offer a higher quality of services than the US ( Preker, 2018) . Therefore, the solution to the current healthcare crisis involves repealing or reforming the ACA to address the needs of the country. Additionally, increasing income tax will only have an adverse effect on the economy. In most cases, insurance companies determine the cost of various health services and they are for profit. Ultimately, the health care costs will increase and millions of Americans will be unable to access healthcare. Health care insurers in Switzerland are not for profit and the profit they receive is reinvested in the healthcare industry ( Preker, 2018) .

Every person in the US should have mandatory health insurance that may be subsidized by the state or federal governments for low income earning households ( Daemmrich & Mohanty, 2014) . Furthermore, the health insurance companies should be competitive and the costs should be affordable. The government should develop a health care system that supports health insurance companies that are nonprofit ( Daemmrich & Mohanty, 2014) . Regulating the insurance company will control health care costs and ensure that all the profit will be reinvested in the healthcare system. Ultimately, the government would not have to increase income tax to plug the healthcare budget deficits. Health insurers will only focus on improving access to health care if the profit incentive is removed ( Daemmrich & Mohanty, 2014) . In a competitive capitalist system such as the US and a country with the best healthcare technology, every citizen should have insurance.

No one should delay critical preventive or medical care because they are uninsured or be denied coverage due to various pre-existing conditions. Most European countries have longer life expectancies and better health outcomes regardless of lower health care costs per capita and insuring most of their populations ( Hasselbladh & Bejerot, 2017) . In conclusion, the country must reform the health care system or risk lower quality services and poorer health outcomes.
