The world is experiencing an increased prevalence of disasters which threaten the health and wellbeing of humanity. The effect of such occurrences relies solely on the level of preparedness and response exhibited by the disaster management and healthcare systems. Therefore, there is a need for communities nationwide to have community health, public health and healthcare disaster systems that are well-prepared. This has been demonstrated by CDC's office of public health Preparedness and Response through its continuous endeavour to provide support and information geared towards achieving effective preparedness and response. As a Community Health Nurse, I can use such information to accomplish my personal competency to enhance collaboration with others and contribute to emergency preparedness and response as explored below.
Knowing that training is one primary strategy towards achieving effective preparedness and response, as a community health nurse, I will enhance the usefulness of training. This involves amalgamating assessment methods to promote training enhancement efforts offered by the CDC (“CDC,” 2018). I will also engage in talks with community leaders and residents to inform them about customs that can help in achieving effective preparedness and response (“Centers for Disease Control,” 2018). Besides, as a Community Health Nurse, I should research and bring forth communication plans that address issues associated with access to knowledge, information, practices and attitudes concerning preparedness and response across different sections of the population (“CDC,” 2018). This is in response to the information that preparedness and response systems function better through enhanced timely emergency communications. Moreover, I will use the information to generate disaster measurement efforts through evaluation of organizational, and community needs.

Generally, the information portrayed by CDC discloses the need for collaboration among different agencies, including health experts such as community health nurses. This includes collaboration within the state's local health sectors, national cohorts, and CDC. Unity is the key as disasters are costly and cannot be managed by one agency.
