This case study focuses on a vulnerable young woman, Addie, who is facing many risk factors, is pregnant, lives in poverty, and has a history of mental illness. One of the risk factors which might impact health outcomes for this young woman is low self-esteem (Stoessle et al., 2015). Low self-esteem is caused by being neglected by parents or family members and being unable to cope well with peers. Low self-esteem in young women leads to early sex which in most cases leads to unwanted pregnancies. There is also the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/Aids, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

Another risk factor which may impact health outcome for vulnerable population in Phoenix Arizona is going through a prolonged period of stress (Stoessle et al., 2015). Prolonged periods of stress among the vulnerable populations may be caused by dropping out of school, being chased away from home or losing a very close relative like a parent. Prolonged periods of stress lead to mental illness, also known as bipolar disorder, among the vulnerable population. Bipolar disorder interferes with the normal working of body nerves and the brain. Bipolar disorder leads to poor decision-making among the vulnerable population which might lead them to risky sexual activities and buying sprees. All these activities have a negative impact on the health outcomes of the victims.
