The current legislation that has had the maximum impact on the way health care is provided is the Patient Protection, and Affordable Care Act (ACA) signed into law on March 23, 2010, by President Barack Obama. Essential components of the legislation are that it mandates businesses and individual to ensure that every American is insured or face a penalty in line with the law (Manchikanti, Caraway, Parr, Fellows, & Hirsch, 2011). It provides a federal subsidy arrangement by the government to pay full or partial insurance covers for millions of uninsured Americans. The Act also creates elaborate and extensive requirements for insurance companies. It also provided rigorous medical practice regulations.

The National Alliance for Nutrition and Activity (NANA), is one interest group that in my view has made a great impact on the lives of American over the last three years. Of particular appeal is the advocacy concerning diet-related diseases, such as obesity among school-going children in America. Obesity is noted as a lifestyle disease fueled by intake of high-calorie, poor nutrient food enhanced by sugary additives (Nestle & Jacobson, 2000). In collaboration with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), they take these good campaigns to schools. The media coverage of the school programs is essentially state-based media reporting, with a reduced mainstream broadcast. The primary action that impacted me is that many food and drink vendors in these schools were taking away what NANA deem harmful to the children. Obesity is affecting more children because of what they eat and drink (Markel, 2004). People should joint and support NANA in the fight against obesity.
