Domain One

There are various healthcare delivery models applicable in different settings. However, a health institution should ensure that the model is capable of delivering high quality services at affordable prices. I have observed that many people have continued to suffer from various diseases because they cannot afford the ideal treatment. On this note, I learned that it is essential for the healthcare system to consider the prices of various healthcare services and products. Furthermore, the ideal model should address the demographical needs of the society. For instance, some members are vulnerable to various diseases because of various factors such as lifestyles and behaviors. Succinctly, ascertaining that the healthcare system can address these issues is crucial in enhancing the health outlook of the entire population.

Another thing that I learned concerns the delivery system, which should adopt emerging technologies to enhance their ability of proper documentation of patient’s information. The government has enacted some laws that should act as a guideline to the facilities offering health services. Markedly, it is imperative to note that health instiutions are required by the HITECH Act to share information about their patients. The inclusion of electronic health records has been influential in ascertaining that patients can access high quality healthcare services because the providers have access to pertinent information about the patient including previous medications (Miotto, Li, Kidd, & Dudley, 2016).

In my opinion, the delivery system of healthcare should also protect the privacy of the patients. Under HIPAA Act, it is imperative for an organization to ascertain that all information regarding the patients is safeguarded from being accessed by unauthorized parties. I believe that some medical condition may present the patient with vulnerabilities to social issues such as discrimination. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of a healthcare facility to ascertain that private information is only shared with other healthcare providers who have the right to access such information.

Domain Two

According to the course materials significant number of healthcare providers are private entities. However, I believe that profit incentives deter the quality of services provided by the organizations. However, it is imperative to note that the need to make profits should not supersede the goal of providing quality services to the clients. I have noted the importance of an organization providing healthcare services focusing on the needs of all stakeholders. Various stakeholders are essential in the provision of healthcare services. They include policymakers who provide a guideline on the payment processes. Tersely, the policymakers provide information on the acceptable costs of healthcare and therefore the patients can assess the costs of their treatment.

I have also learned that the payer, who is usually the patient or a parent are the people who are responsible for paying medical bills provides a crucial consideration factor when determining the prices of services and products. On this note, the course material has highlighted that the payer has a number of options for paying for healthcare services. For example, some payers have health insurance while others have employment benefits that address their medical fees. Nevertheless, it is important for the policymakers to safeguard the payers to avoid them being exploited by healthcare providers. In some situations, the payer is not the patient and therefore policymakers should also address the concerns of these stakeholders. High medical costs have an inhibitive effect to the quality of care that the patient can access (Senthikumar, Raj, Meshram, Gunasekaran, & Chandrakumarmanalam, 2018).

In my opinion, business in the industry acting as providers should use the activity based costing (ABC) to streamline their operations. In this regard, the management should ensure that they identify all the activities of the provision of healthcare to the patients. Moreover, it is essential for the organization to ensure that it aligns its operation costs with industry standards to avoid offering their services at higher prices.
