Healthy citizens create a wealthy nation. A well-established healthcare system nurtures physically and psychologically healthy citizens who are capable of performing at their best (Goh & Marimuthu , 2016) . Proper healthcare is a right that each individual is entitled to by being a human being. This right applies irrespective of an individual’s religion, culture, race, economic stat us, or nationality . Thus, a mong the fundamental rights that individual s enjoy , healthcare is the most vital. Th is paper supports the notion that healthcare should be a human right.

C ountries that have failed to provide comprehensive healthcare to their citizenry have experienced dire consequences. The right to healthcare allows citizens to access the highest attainable standards of both physical and mental health (Goh & Marimuthu , 2016 ). This can only be attained through a comprehensive system of service delivery . Such a system facilitates access to not only healthcare services, but also other related aspects such as decent housing, proper sanitation, clean living environments, and conducive working environment s. Several dreadful diseases are infectious and can quickly be passed over to those surrounding the affected. Failure to provide adequate primary healthcare may fuel the spread of such ailments hence resulting in an outbreak. Therefore, g overnments are charged with the responsibility of formulating policies that ensure the smooth running of their respective healthcare systems ( Maruthappu et al., 2013) . The right to better healthcare comes with both entitlements and freedoms. In this case, consumers enjoy the freedom to control their health and to deter interference through non-consensual medical experimentation and practices. The consumers are also entitled to healthcare protection, which offers an equal opportunity to all consumers to enjoy the highest quality of health services that can be attained. Moreover, such factors as safe housing, sanitation, and access to clean water are not only healthcare issues but are also undoubtedly fundamental human rights .
