Healthcare Human Resource Management

The psychiatric Department of Queens Hospital has witnessed an increase in the number of patients streaming in on a daily basis to seek assistance from the hospital. As the psychiatric nurse manager in charge of the department, which also includes the psychiatry emergency room, the recent patient population requires that I make several changes and adjustments to address the growing number of people. 

Previously, the nurses who worked within the various categories within the department were required to report directly to me. However, in a bid to tackle the situation at hand more effectively, the nurses will be tasked with running their various categories independently while I make supervision on them from a rather decentralized manner. As a result, I will delegate authority to them to uninterruptedly run their areas of duty without necessarily having to ask me what to do as was the case prior to this. With such an approach, the employees will feel that I have more trust in them, which I do, having worked with most of them for a longer time (Flynn, Mathis, & Jackson, 2015) . Moreover, they are better placed to make decisions in their categories since they have specialized in the categories in which they work. 

As the manager, I will have more time to act as the supervisor and the physical and mental requirements of my job will have reduced significantly as the nurses will handle most of the work (Dunn, 2015) . Moreover, the individual nurses will have the chance to improve on their knowledge and skills and will therefore become more efficient in what they do. The most important aspect of this approach is that they will be able to directly see and assess the outcome of the decisions they make, that are not controlled by anyone above them (Dunn, 2015) .
