Internship position
The internship position is to act as health management by providing services based on Applied Medical Services, including events management, health promotion, internal auditing, strategic planning, continuous education, and health economics to the healthcare center. The internship is conducted at the Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) located at 121 DeKalb Avenue, 240 Willoughby Street, in Brooklyn New York. The hospital setting offers full-spectrum medical care with an over 500-bed capacity. The hospital contains numerous patient rooms that are fully equipped, the latest medical technologies, spacious lobbies, and large waiting rooms.
On-the-job training and orientation
On the first day, the intern is provided a working station equipped with a phone, personal computer, and internet access. The orientation program includes a tour of the hospital and being introduced to other employees in the health management faculty, materials such s newspaper, annual reports, charts, and memos are provided for the intern to read about the hospital. The intern is also provided with a one-to-one meeting for further training ad observation of how work is being conducted in the faculty. Topics that are addressed during the on-the-job training include access to supervisors, task that can be completed without supervision, how the hospital expects the intern to deal with clients and other employees, specific procedures expected at workstation, emailing and telephone system procedures, how to complete periodic forms ad reports, security and confidentiality related issues, and accepted dressing and appearance.

The connection between classroom study and what learned on the job
The classroom study of medical management connected with the work during the internship job as it helped in providing the ability to manage meeting since the medical management department at the Brooklyn hospital involved frequent meetings scheduled at different times that required members of the medical management faculty to attend to analyze different aspect regarding the hospital management. The personal work preference learned included the working environment which was conducive in terms of workstation settings whereby all needed equipment for work is provided such as a personal computer, internet connection, and personal working desk and a quiet working environment that enabled one to concentrate with the task a hand and complete in time. The working schedule is well organized, allowing one to attend to the required time as scheduled in time, provide one with enough time to relax and to interact with other employees from different faculties during breaks that are scheduled for breakfast, lunch, and evening.
How internship relate to plans after graduation
The plan after graduation was to find a job that would provide more learning experience in a major hospital. The internship provided the same opportunity as planned after graduation since it involved working in one of the major hospitals that offer an opportunity to learn from on-job-training increasing experience as one interacts with different challenges every day that require more skills to conduct; hence gaining more experience in health management.
Goals set to achieve during internship
The goals set to acquire during the internship experience include increasing knowledge on leadership and management skills in terms of events management, health promotion, internal auditing, strategic planning, continuous education, and health economics in a health care facility. Another goal was to acquire knowledge regarding the use of administrative forms correctly. Also, the experience at the internship was to achieve the goal of being fully integrated and familiar with family medical services and understanding more about reporting, monitoring, and evaluation of context in health management.
Skills acquired and enhanced during the internship
During the internship period at Brooklyn hospital, different skills were acquired, and others enhanced. The acquired skills during the period include building familiarity with outpatient services such as the ability to perform reception tasks, supervising and directing activities of outpatient clinics, coordinating outpatient activities with the activities of other departments within the hospital, ability to establish clinic procedures ad policies in conjunction with other hospital officials from different departments, and ability to conduct hospital and clinic review and recommending necessary changes for better utilization of facilities, services, equipment, and staff. Other acquired skills were in relation to the recruitment functions of the hospital where the learned skills included the ability to develop trust and partnership both inside and outside the hospital, establishing an effective relationship with other individuals, assessing needs regarding staffing, and the ability to draft and negotiate agreements and contracts. Additionally, several skills were enhanced during the internship period at Brooklyn Hospital, including the use of administrative forms correctly, preparing and documenting plans such as recruitment plan and work schedule plan, and the ability to deal with both manual, electronic health information records, increasing familiarity with cost-benefit analysis, how to utilize resources, and statistical review procedures.
Contribution to the Hospital
During the internship period, several activities were assigned to the intern that marked a major contribution to the operation of the hospital. One of the activities was to conduct training which involved assessing the training needs, being familiar with training courses needed, preparing and conducting the training, and evaluating the training programs provided. The training activity as conducted within a week, whereby it was scheduled for two hours a day after the tea break. The training involved a range of services regarding health management in the hospital. The individuals being trained included community managers, geriatrics, nurses, social workers, risk managers, and case managers.
Challenges during Internship
Challenges faced during internship included financial constraints, whereby one was required as an intern to work with pay making it difficult to cater to basic needs, including daily transport and other support requirements such as clothing and food during the six month internship period. It was also difficult to manage an intense schedule that involves spending much time conducting analytical processes and evaluating different departments within the hospital without much support from the supervisors. The other challenge faced is that one has to make critical decisions regarding various financial operations of different departments in the hospital, which puts one in a difficult situation in terms of expanding their friendship, relationships with members of other departments that feel the decisions do not or did not favor their terms. Eradicating corruption is one of the functions involved in health management, which to some extent makes one a threat to those members getting involved in illegitimate deals within the hospital. The six-month duration of the internship without pay also makes it difficult for one in such a position to resist being interceded with bribes from corrupt members to avoid reporting them or providing an audit report that is up to date.

Changes in Result in the Internship Experience
Going through the internship at Brooklyn Hospital Center developed changes in one that can result in one having a better career and life outside career. The experience of interacting with senior professionals, patients, and facing different tasks ad challenges every day as an intern boosts one’s ability to handle different situations, including financial management, networking, and practical skills that play a major role in one development on the outside world.
The Management Style of the Supervisor
The management style used by the supervisor was coaching, which one of the favorites as it involves focusing on one-on-one employee development. The coaching leadership helps in developing an induvial ability to get the most out of their performance by understanding their strengths and weaknesses (Levinson, 2018). The coach then finds ways to increase employee strength and reduce the weaknesses ensuring the employees are well motivated and set to perform their duties efficiently.
Valuable Internship Experience
The internship value achieved included helping in becoming more experienced in the practical application of health management processes. It also enabled more learning about medical conditions and processes in place to improve the management of medical conditions by physicians and nurses. Another value of the internship experience is that it offered an opportunity to acquire practical knowledge and skills in leadership and management, teamwork, and social networking. It increased the ability to monitor, evaluate, and write reports and reporting techniques regarding events management, health promotion, internal auditing, strategic planning, continuous education, and health economics. Other values provided by the internship include the communication skills to communicate with people in grief, dealing with violent situations, and ensuring the safety of the patients and the enter community.
