My response to the seventy-year-old lady who has developed an urge to drink heavily would be convincing her to reduce the high intake of alcohol. As such, I would seek to point out the likely risks that she is exposing herself to within her drinking period. Starting with the problems that are presently affecting her, she will be in a position of seeing how disastrous the habit is likely to cost her in the future. Therefore, I will begin by pointing out her likely susceptibility to miscarriages and stillbirths, violence emanating from partners or sexual assault, high levels of alcohol in blood resulting from alcohol poisoning, risky social behaviors that may trigger sexually transmitted infection as well as minor injuries such as burns, falls or car crashes ( Eskapa, 2012) . Analyzing these risks she will be able to relate with my suggestion on her need to quit too much drinking.
Moreover, when the woman gets into terms with the short term risks, I will then paint the ideal picture of the long term impacts of heavy drinking. As a result, I will seek to see if she understands that the addiction will land her into a miserable future. While outlining the repercussion, I will maintain eye contact to access if she sees the dangers of that come along with the habit and how she perceives them. Additionally, I will seek to elaborate on the risks to see if she gets the clear comprehension of the seriousness of the situation. Impacts such as high blood pressure, stroke, issues with digestion, breast cancer, alcohol dependency and social problems are likely to catch up with the user. Thus I would urge her to put in the effort and quit the habit ( Dasgupta, 2011 ). As such, my response would be geared towards convincing her to quit the habit to save her life from the pointed out issues.

The evidence of my response would be based on analysis from daily experiences from users. Again, I would involve her perception based on her previous experiences. As such, if she demonstrates utmost honest regarding her experiences, it will be easy to convince her that the risks have already begun establishing. Therefore, I would advise her to quit lest the risks get to irreversible levels. Based on her friends' and family’s response to the alcohol, she will get to relate to the situation and develop the urge to discontinue the habit or switch to standard drinking.
There is a medication that can aid in reducing her desire for alcohol. A drug like Naltrexone would be so effective for her case ( Obembe,2012). The drug has brand names like Vivitrol and ReVia which helps one stay sober for quite long without developing the desire for alcohol. Again, Disulfiram is effective in dealing with addiction as it changes how one’s body reacts to alcohol. Therefore, when one drinks, they fall sick that they don’t have the urge to drink to avoid falling sick.
In my opinion, the woman ought to switch to either standard drinking or quit alcohol to save her health. As such, she ought to take up relevant medication that will speed up the rate of her body’s reaction to her absence of alcohol. Therefore I would offer the prescription if she demonstrates her readiness to change the habit. Additionally, I would offer necessary guidance on how to go about her new life without too many challenges.
