The Americans wanted someone who could get them through economic stability after the recession in 2008, and a president will reunite them and make the country great for living. Obama had tough times fighting through ethnic racism, but his campaign strategies made him victorious against John McCain. The focus of this essay is on how elections ended and its significance to American people. Although Barack Obama presidential term was defined as a fragile legacy, he made significant changes in America in the economy, technology, healthcare reform, immigration issues, education, and social policies (Husband, 2018).
Barack Obama ascended unto power because of his aggressiveness concerning issues in American society. The majority of voters believed in his ability to change foreign policies, which caused diplomatic conflicts with other countries, barring the citizens from free daily economic activities. After the great economic recession, Americans yearned for a leader who would save them from sabotage since most were unemployed, and industries had declined. At that time, they trusted in Obama's governance to ease the taxation through budget control and get tax relief and unemployment insurance. As a law practitioner, Obama was entrusted to strengthen surveillance and intelligence issues to end terror wars by signing treaties and MOUs with other conflicting states such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, to liberate citizens who suffered because of unauthorized militias. Other primary voters in Obama's favor included the youth and young adults up to 60%. As expected, Obama's economic policies earned him a high number of votes from the states with high unemployment cases. Controversy over Barack Obama being a Muslim saw him sway 89% votes from the Muslim society, who worked closely with him during his reign as per his farewell speech (Davies, 2017).
Obama's winning election was an excellent start for change in America since high profiling in Social practices got into a revolution face with reduced crime rates and racial discrimination cases. There were few industrial unrests and protests as the majority of citizens could tolerate each other. The demographic setting also went through the transition by racial relations strengthening and reduced profile deaths. Through economic policy, Obama revived the employment rates that had increased as a result of economic depression. Obama's religious cult was necessary for better interrelation among different religions in the country. Religious staunchness was discouraged as it erected religious conflicts and stereotyping. There was a generational change from baby boomers taking a large part of political and social affairs to millennials taking over (Tu, 2016). By picking and announcing Joe Bidden as a running mate in 2008, Obama encouraged the embrace of technology through social media, which is useful up-to-date.
In sum, president Barrack Obama's election even got my attention because of its diverse nature and dynamic changes witnessed during the two-term election period. It is an exciting event basing on emerged controversies and speculations around it. As a historian, this kind of historical event got a twist on thoughts regarding typical witnessed cases before, during, and after the election period. I always thought that elections must-see political wrangles, division among the voters, and protests the following defeat, but during Obama's elections, opponents peacefully conceded the results. According to this essay, I would encourage other historians to use my thesis statement and research on Obama's legacy that is unsettled, whether it is stable or fragile. Future researchers should identify barriers strengths and weaknesses to his legacy following his historic election. They should also research on the amendments of Obama's policy on important issues, in governments after him.
