What does Homeland Security mean to you and why is it important?
Homeland Security to me is safety from the many external and internal threats the country receives especially terrorism. Homeland security is an important as security is an important gesture for socio-economic and political stability in the country. Therefore, Homeland Security is vital to the stability of a nation. As the department of defense is tasked with military actions outside the country, Homeland Security works neutrally to protect the United States. For the case of this forum, we will view homeland security as a verb rather than a noun. Therefore, Homeland security becomes to homeland security meaning to secure. The act of homeland security will be in relation to other stakeholders like the Central Intelligence Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigations, and the United States Secret Service, and national Security Agency among others. In the context of a verb, homeland security means to secure the country (United States). It is specifically important to note to homeland security plays a vital role in protecting the country after the September 11, 2001 terror attacks perpetrated by Al-Qaeda militants. But since then, there has been no clear definition for Homeland Security as well as their mission. In 2008 to homeland security meant One Team, One Mission, Securing the Homeland (Reese, 2012). The mission strategy has come to change in 2010, 2012, and 2012. However, to homeland security the nation main mission is to protect it from threats. Security is an aspect that has to be shared between the securities stakeholders mentioned earlier. However, has homeland security been effective and efficient in its mandate? To homeland security effectiveness has to be judged in ability to execute its mission. To homeland security effectiveness cannot really be measured definitely as it scopes in different sectors and works with different stakeholders to peg progress. Efficiency for that matter is definite in terms of administrational cost being reduced over the years against the progress made; for instance, saving $6.1 million from inception to date by not hiring meeting spaces. To homeland security is not entirely to exist on its own but to act as a blanket level amongst other stakeholders is a fact that fascinates. It works in all sectors of national infrastructure and blend seamlessly with civilians (Dalgaard-Nielsen & Hamilton, 2009, p. 2). Facilitators of homeland security do a great job in keeping the country safe and liking other stakeholders. The greatest problem is having a high turnover thus difficult to maintain high standards. Higher renumeration would solve the problem as agents will not look for greener pastures. Psalms 127, second sentence states that unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stands guard in vein (New International Version). The city is home and the watchman is Homeland Security with other stakeholders. Without divine security, to homeland security with the concerned stakeholders as an alarm for warning home means nothing. I picked this verse because most of our leaders acknowledge divinity by asking God to bless us and bless America. Therefore, with this divine nature we get divine security from God who enables our watchmen to see and sound the alarm.
