Homicide cases are on the rise and many people are getting killed day by night. Before handling this case, it is important to note that the term homicide is generally used to refer to both the criminal and non-criminal acts of murder ( Brookman, & Innes, 2016) . In this case, there is certain information that is essential for the “Big City Police” and the manager to get to know. The information offered is going to help on the investigation for the case manager and will also be vital for court proceedings that will be scheduled later on.

First, it is important to know the full identification of the victim who has been murdered in this case. The victim is Shawn Philip Carter who was born in October 1975. The place of birth for Mr. Carter is Dawson Creek, Ontario. This is the first information that the law enforcers need to get first when they arrive at the crime scene. This arriving at the scene when called upon, the police officers need to put on protective or safe gloves and then search for the pockets of the victim for any signal that can help them with identification. If the victim does not have anything on the body then what they carry such as bags or anything can be searched. The law enforcers can get this information from the identification card, business card, credit card, cell phone, or anything that bears name and identification details ( Geberth, 2017) . Correct identification will help with ensuring that all details pertaining to the circumstances around the death are well-document and their accuracy increased.

The information about the exact location where the body of the victim was found and the time is very important for the investigators. The body of Mr. Carter was found by the street cleaners at the parking lot behind the Roadsters Bar and Grill at 5.20 a.m. the Roadsters Bar and Grill is located at 1472 Gulliver Street, in Big City.

Information about when the victim was last seen and whom he was hanging out with is very important. For instance, Carter left the bar at 11.20 pm and he was not in the company of any person. Again the time for normal operation for the bar is important to know as this will help to know if the victim was law-abiding or not. According to the time that Carter left the bar, could he reach home safely? This can be answered by the information about the time that he left the bar.

The information about the girlfriend of the victim is essential. In most cases, murder cases are caused by social factors such as the conflict between the lovers. The information about the girlfriend of the victim may help more in getting to know the reason as to why Carter might have been killed. In homicide cases, many theories may be developed and connected to the death of the victim. Therefore, in this case, one theory that may be worth investigating is his girlfriend. This includes the information about their past relationship if there could have split, and many more. Carter had split from his girlfriend Arulpragasasm about six weeks ago. At the time when Carter was murdered, the girlfriend was in Vancouver.

Information about Carter’s new relationship is also going to be essential for the case. During an interview with the former girlfriend Arulpradasasm, she revealed that Carter was in another new relationship after they had broken up. Carter and his new girlfriend started an affair before Christmas. However, there is no much information about the new girlfriend and her information remains unidentified. The new relationship between Carter and the new unidentified girlfriend was complicated as Arulpragasasm suspected that she married and that they were dating Carter secretly without the knowledge of her husband. Homicide is caused by love triangle issues in most cases and this might just be one ( Geberth, 2017) . This information is very important since it can help in getting to know one of the possible causes of Carter’s death.

After the collection of the body from the crime, it was revealed that the cause of the death was knife stabs. Specialists carried out post mortem and a report was given that carter died from an action of stabbing. The nature of the stabbing is very important to know and the doctors added that there seemed to be violence from the extent to which the stabbing was done and how repeatedly it was in different parts of the body. From how the stabbing was done, it stated that the attacker might have attacked Carter in a violent frenzy. It appeared like the attacker is someone who had known Carter earlier and they might have been together that same evening. There was no sign shown that Carter struggled during the killing and it appeared like he made a little effort responding to the attacks. This information is essential for the manager as it will help in supporting various theories to how the killing was conducted, whether it was something planned earlier or something that happened as an accident ( Carter, 2013) .

In the last evening before his death, the bank records show that Carter had withdrawn $500 from an ATAM. The ATM was not far from the bar and was just located on the opposite side of Roadster Bar and Grill. The security camera shows Carter withdrawing the amount from an ATM at Joe’s Convenience Store which is located at Gulliver Street. The time for withdrawal is recorded to be at 5.30 pm. This information is also important as it may be used to develop another theory about the killing of Carter, whether it could have been conducted because of cash or other reasons ( Carter, 2013) .

In the same store where Carter withdrew $500, the security cameras show an unknown white male walking up to Carter. The unknown man is wearing blue jeans, a redshirt, and a baseball cap, and two walks away talking in a friendly manner. Upon investigation, the bartender told the investigators that Carter was drinking in the company of an unidentified white man. The unknown man was introduced to the bartender as “Sam” and was not sure if this was his real name or not. The two arrived in the bar at 6.30 pm on 19 March 2020. After taking shots of tequila, Carter and the unknown white man appeared to be engaged in a heated discussion. This was happening towards the end of the evening and Carter was extremely drunk compared to the unknown male they were having fun with. The bartender said that the discussion was about “the goods” and money.

After the interview, the bartender brought another waitress who could recall the actions of “Sam” that same night. The waitress said that Sam went to the other side of the bar to talk with a scruffy-looking man. This was happening at the time when Carter had gone to the washroom. The waitress knows Carter to be a regular customer at the bar but did not know the scruffy man talking with Sam on the other side of the bar. What the waitress could remember is that the scruffy man was wearing a distinctive leather biker vest with an emblem on the back. The dressing of this scruffy man can be connected to the Demon’s Choice Motorcycle Gang (DCMG). This is a group that is associated with crime and many homicide crimes in Ontario and again, members of this gang are known to hangout in the bar more frequently. It may be that the unknown white male colluded who was drinking with Carter was planning something with the DCMC gang. The talks and how Sam was only going to talk with the scruffy man at the time when Carter went to the washroom is very suggestive. Sam could have been planning something especially from the fact that they had a heated argument about money and “some goods.” It is very important to get to know the reasons behind the killing and this information may be useful ( Carter, 2013) .

The call (from his number 905-233-5555) that Carter made at 2 am before his death to Nancy Johnson (905-222-4444). More investigation revealed that Saul Hudson was also living in the same place as Nancy. Hudson has a criminal record and it the same day that Carter died, the description of Hudson is the same as that of the same man with Carter from the store when he was withdrawing money. A colleague at Hudson’s working place said that he was wearing blue jeans and a baseball cap on the evening of 19 March 2021. The man captured by a camera at the ATM has been revealed to be Hudson. Moreover, the bartender has also identified the man who was drinking with Carter to be Hudson. Before Hudson left the bar, he made a call using a pay phone at the bar and the call was directed to Nancy Johnson. This information is essential since it help in getting to know the circumstances that surround the death of the victim ( Brookman, & Innes, 2016) .

The secret intelligence crime unit identified Hudson as a member of the MCMG member working as their enforcer. Again, the intelligence revealed Hudson to be a “borderline psychotic” and a thug obsessed with knives. On 21st March 2021, Hudson was arrested for second-degree murder but refused to answer questions without his lawyer. It is important to know the background of the suspect in order to get possibility of recurring offences.

In this case, the law enforcers could have employed more technological methods to derive information. For example, they could have brought in specialists to take biological evidence. They could have looked at fingerprints in Carter’s clothes or boy. The killer must have touched him when doing the cat and this can help to get the exact information regarding the identity of the killer. More biological evidence such as hair and other tissues could have been collected to help with the identification of the criminals involved. Again, digital evidence could have helped more. For example, Nancy Johnson refuses that she does not know Carter while she was called by Carter that same night at 2 is before his death.

Lastly, the investigators who took over this case show the exactly required skills and traits for their work. They have high research and surveillance skills. These are important aspects for investigators and in this case, these traits were employed to get information about Hudson, Johnson including his past criminal records and where he worked. These investigators also show a high level of interviewing skills, critical thinking, and communication skills ( Brookman, & Innes, 2016) . Through these traits, they were able to get useful information from the waitress, bartender, and Hudson’s colleagues. Deductive and inductive reasoning was used by the investigators to follow factual statements of premises that they were told by those whom they interviewed before deciding to arrest Hudson. The investigators went as far as getting information from the secret intelligence and used some of the facts given to arrest Hudson.
