The episode "Nosedive" was quite an eye-opener for me, mainly because our society is slowly getting addicted to their phones. Social media has become an integral platform through which people interact, just as in the episode. Looking at the episode critically, one notes that people's interactions are paramount as they determine the rank you end up with. The rank that one has ensures their access to social amenities. When the main character's rating is reduced, she is denied access to "better things." When she cannot fuel her car, she is reluctant to get a ride from someone with a lower-ranking despite her not having any other option. She is afraid because her society has made her believe that a lower rating means people have issues. This is contrary as she gets to know the story behind her rating, which shows how the social self is a construct of others' judgments (Grazian, 2017).
