Recently, the world encountered a pandemic that affected the operation of various sectors. The education sector was not an exception as most countries closed down learning institutions to keep the students and staff safe and combat the spread of covid19. To most people, this act was ethical because it aimed at saving people's lives. However, the article by New York New times written by Dan Levin about, A School District Vowed to Stay Open, Until Its Staffing Ran Out shows the breaching of ethical and related biblical issues.

The article focuses on the Atlanta district that decided to open schools amid a coronavirus pandemic. The decision by the district provoked several controversial debates where some parents supported it while others opposed it. Most district schools did not adhere to covid19 guideline rules, which exacerbated covid19 conditions within the area. Due to the district's recklessness of opening schools and not enforcing the students and tutors to follow the Coronavirus guidelines, over 1200 pupils and teachers tested positive in the first few weeks of resuming class (Levin, 2021). As a result, most schools closed down within the first two weeks.

Undoubtedly, the district's decision violated the ethical values associated with the welfare of human beings. The district officials exposed students and teachers to a lethal virus by instructing them to open without proper measures to manage the pandemic. Some people lost their lives, while others faced financial constraints as they used their savings to treat the disease. The condition and the adverse outcomes could have been prevented if the district officials considered the ethical issues before opening schools. From a biblical perspective, exodus 20:13 warns people that they should not murder (Gushee, 2013). This verse signifies that life is precious and should be protected. Although the district officials did not literally kill people, they exposed their lives in danger, thus, violating the rule of protecting life.
