In the reading , “Is There an Ecological Unconscious?” the author claim that “People have heart's ease when they're in their own country. If you force them off that country, if you take them away from their land, they feel the loss of heart's ease as a kind of vertigo, a disintegration of their whole life." Smith, 2010). What the author means in this instance is that it is often disappointing to come back home and find things different. The author also means that home is the best and it gives the personal comfort and pleasure to be at home. When such places people call their home are under threat of destruction as shown in the reading, people feel the pain inside. Further, in the video, My Louisiana Love it is evident that the leading actor is not impressed with kind of destruction of the environment she once left glittering. She feels the pain when she fined everything differently and destroyed in her backyard. This is a similar pain I often experience when I see the small town which at one time was flourishing with life shuttered.
My area of residence was once a place which was full of life. There was a conducive environment for business. This was the meeting place for all types of trade which took place in this area. Men and women derived their daily bread in this city since they put up different business. If one was not a seller, he or she was a buyer. The trade that took place in this center lead to rapid development of the owner and everything looked nice. In the article, “Is There an Ecological Unconscious?” the author uses the word “solastalgia” to describe the reaction of people when they are in their home and when they see the homes facing potential threat of destruction. In this case, this was the time the residence of this city were experiencing comfort and pleasure of their city. This was some ten years ago. I have to confess that the situation is much different now.

Currently, the city is shuttered. How did this happen? The same trade which was responsible for the rise of this city was the key to its downfall. Cabbage was the factor. Nobody was responsible for seeing that the rate at which the cabbage collected in this small town was alarming. There was nobody who was the response to collecting the cubage and taking them to dumping sites. The traders too were blaming each other for the rate of cabbage accumulation, and nobody was ready to act. Those who acted were not paid by the person responsible. The result was that there was a high rate of accumulation of garbage and this lead to the government intervention. The small town thus was shuttered for some time, and it has now taken nearly three years without any major operation. The booming business has been shut down, and it looks deserted ( Cañellas-Boltà et al., 2018).
Environment conservation is very important, and in case it would have been taken seriously, in this case, the booming trade and rapid development in this town would have continued. The shutdown brought to stop the rapid development in the town, and many people were affected. The community in this area was dependent on this trade to pay school fees, rent, and their daily living. They are finding it difficult to cope without it. Other than this, it halted the developments which were ongoing in this small town. The trade made the town one of the revenues generating town, and this was critical to the populace. The shuttering of the town led to less growth and diminishing revenue which boosted the economic stability of the residents in this area.
