Information technology (IT) has improved the quality of healthcare services provided to the community. IT has promoted the monitoring of health problems that affect the community repeatedly. IT has enabled public healthcare organizations to track epidemic diseases affecting the community. Through the data collected over time and research conducted, healthcare organizations have been empowered to develop effective immunization drugs. The community will attain perfect health when they are immunized against the prevalent diseases. IT guarantees reduced medical errors when administering these immunization drugs to the community. IT has strengthened the interaction between the community and healthcare providers (Rouleau, Gagnon & Cote, 2015). The availability of telecommunication systems has facilitated the sharing of health information between patients and healthcare professionals. The healthcare professionals can offer diagnosis, counseling, and education to patients who are distant apart through telecommunication. This, in turn, will result in increased patient safety. IT ensures that the confidentiality of the patient's information is not compromised, but protected against any unauthorized access.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (2019), the goal of a healthcare organization is to ensure a healthy population for the nation to thrive. IT has contributed to the achievement of this goal in three ways. Firstly, IT has reduced the cost of healthcare services. The federal, local, and territorial governments have invested heavily implementing IT across significant healthcare centers. These centers, in turn, are mandated to provide affordable healthcare services to patients. Secondly, IT has improved the patients' outcomes. IT has ensured that diseases are correctly diagnosed and effective treatment is administered to patients. This has resulted in decreased mortality rate and high life expectancy. Third, IT has increased access to healthcare services. Patients living in rural areas can acquire healthcare services, thanks to IT. Through the telehealth services, healthcare professionals are able to attend to patients in remote areas.
