The pancreas is an organ that is posited in the abdomen, and it plays a critical role in the conversion of the foods consumed to the energy that is used to fuel the body. There are two functions of pancreas: an exocrine purpose which supports digestion as well as an endocrine purpose which helps in the regulation of blood sugars (The Pancreas and its Functions, 2020). In the pancreas, there are regions that are alluded to as the islets of Langerhans. The beta cells are the primary cell types in the islets. The beta cells are mainly crucial as they are responsible for the formation of insulin. The degeneration of the beta cells are the chief contributors to type I diabetes mellitus. The alpha cells, in contrast, produce an opposite hormone referred to as glucagon and is primarily responsible for the release of glucose and fatty acids from the liver and fat tissues respectively. In turn, fatty acids and glucose favor insulin’s release and constrains the secretion of glucagon. The delta cells are also responsible for the production of somatostatin, which is a strong inhibitor of insulin, somatotropin, and glucagon. However, its roles in the process of metabolic regulation are still unclear (Islets of Langerhans, 2020).

How Pancreatic Cells Relate to Our Everyday Life

Pancreatic cells relate to our everyday lives in that they represent some of the most critical parts of our lives since the pancreatic cells are essential to our survival. For instance, the cells, beta, alpha, and delta are represented by food, water, and shelter in our everyday lives. Without these elements in our lives, it would be impossible to survive and live a healthy and prosperous life. This is also similar to the pancreatic cells, as a dysfunction of the mechanisms of these cells can lead to risks of death.
