The article by Reheema et al. (2017) sought to examine the potential benefits that pet facilitated therapy would offer children with ASD. The authors note that their study was necessitated by the numerous challenges faced by family members in taking care of these children. The study reviewed scholarly articles and books on pet therapy. Online sources used in their study was searching through a library research gateway of IUUM and online databases such as PubMed, Science-direct, among other credible sources. The materials were then analyzed systematically and thoroughly. The study found that PFT had potentially beneficial effects on the social, mental, and physical aspect of children with ASD.

This article will be beneficial in creating a case of why I need to investigate pet therapy. The study has also given an insightful limitation of the PFT which I will consider in my study. The study reviewed a recent article with the oldest dating between 1995 and 2016. The time span of the articles used increases the validity of the analysis and ensured the evolution of PFT and its impact over the years is captured. The use of recent article also shows the content is relevant and worth examining. However, the study may be limited in that is not original research and review previous researches, which might have some accumulated errors. The study has not mentioned about the use of the intervention in environments outside that which parents are not part of such as nursing care or school. However, the article does mention ethical considerations to be made, which somehow makes the study relevant to nursing care. The article will be useful in making a strong case.
Article 2:
Siewertsen, C., French, E., & Teramoto, M. (2015). Autism Spectrum Disorder and Pet Therapy. Advances in Mind-Body Medicine , 29 (2), 22-25.
This study sought to examine the effectiveness as well as findings and limitations of pet therapy for ASD persons. The article will be useful in answering why pet therapy is increasingly being adopted as an intervention in children with ASD. The study particularly examines dogs and horses as animals in this particular therapy. The study reviewed research-based studies on the topic. The study found various articles agreeing on the effectiveness of pet therapy.
The article will be helpful to my study in that is identified benefits arising from pet therapy. The article also identified the limitation of the therapy, such as the inconveniences associated with it. It also puts forward some of the cautions that parents, as well as caregivers, can be put forward when introducing pet therapy. The article also finds relevance in my research in that it identifies areas of future research such as the form of pet therapy that is most effective. The article has also mentioned how the intervention can be used in school settings. It does not mention its use in nursing care. Since the study argues for pet therapy as being an intervention for anxiety disorders in ASD persons, the research will use other groups of people with similar disorders to check whether the intervention is unique to ASD persons.
The study is faulted by the fact that it is a review rather than a research-based article. The article did not identify the impact that ASD patients may face when coming into contact with animals such as the risk of zoonosis. Overall, the article will be useful to my research and in identifying gaps in the topic.
