The society experienced currently makes it difficult to hear the elderly speak about their sex life. The youth seems not to consider that the elderly were once in their twenties, and they are more informed on safe sexual life themselves as they probably maintain a healthy sexual life. There are various psychological transformations that people undergo, which make the elderly not be able to perform much as compared to when they were young. The media have used cartoons in several occasions to portray sexuality among the elderly. The younger generation should learn to appreciate the sexuality of the older adults since it can offer them more knowledge on dealing with their sexuality.

The media cartoon chosen conveys a message on sexuality among older adults. The cartoons portray adults that are in an intimate mood during the Christmas season. Although the message seems to be more of a comic scenario, the woman tries taking the husband back to the days when they were still young. She funnily asks the husbands of things that she cannot have at her age like bigger tits, smaller nose, thinner thighs, and a husband dumber that the shoe. She uses the irony to show appreciation she sees in herself and her husband.

The society has created a belief that there is an age bracket where once a person has reached, the term sex is withdrawn from their vocabulary since it is something that below their age ( Chrisler, Barney & Palatino, 2016) . The notion has been created that makes it even difficult for the younger generations to learn more about sexuality among adults. The older adults should not shy away from their romantic life since it will also help in offering a lesson about sexuality to the youths. The cartoon image has been able to display all the sexual aspects.

Figure [1]: Cartoon Image on Sexuality and Elderly People

Physiological Aspect

Sexual arousal is a psychological function that can be evidenced in the cartoon image, which seems to be positive. Considering Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, there are things that people require in order to make them realize their potential and wellness. Sex is among the psychological needs that Maslow recognized ( DeLamater, 2014) . Apart from sleep, food, and sleep, sex is also essential as part of sexuality since it is a basis for procreation purposes. Human reaches sexual maturity at puberty when they begin to physical and behavioral changes in their body ( DeLamater, 2014) . It then continues through stages considered to as reproductive primes like adolescence and adulthood.

The changes witnessed among males and females when they reach their maturity include sexual libido and increased stamina. The female gender undergoes ovulation and reproductive circle. The adults experience a reduction in these reproductive functions as they age, making them have lower sexual activities with time. The cartoons portray an image of physical variations that the elderly experience. The older adults later begin to live like roommates as they live in the absence of sexual activities. Physiological changes can be evidenced as the man uses glasses to help improve his poor vision. The hair has also turned grey showing the physiological changes that the two have undergone.

Psychological Aspect

The psychological dimension is concerned principles and beliefs that a person holds on their sexuality. The attitude of a person is an essential factor in the sexual orientation that an individual holds. The aged in Western culture holds negative sexual orientation, making them shy away from engaging in sexual discussions. Gender identity is the psychological perception that a person is holding, which might change with their age. Although almost all people are looking forward to aging, it comes with health issues and deteriorating sexuality.

The cartoon image in the picture shows adults who have a positive psychological dimension about sexuality. The man carries the wife, and they seem to be enjoying Christmas mood romantically. The sexual expressions of the woman through mentioning her likes indicate that she has a positive psychological aspect in her sexuality. The intimacy shared by the two older adults shows a positive impact on their sexual life ( Manzano, 2014) . The happy and carefree faces shown in the cartoon image indicate adults whose sexuality is positive.

Social Aspect

The society offers an environment that can dictate sexuality in the environment by containing the behavior of people. Sexuality among older adults is strongly influenced by attitude and sexual myths in the surrounding. There is a belief in sexual maturity among people that restrains older adults since they are scared of appearing odd in the eye of society. American society has created a culture that is not pleasant to the elderly’s sexual expression ( DeLamater, 2014) . There are a pattern gross and disrespect towards older people, making them cynical about their sexuality. The society must create an educative discussion that motivates older people not to shy away from sharing sexuality issues.

The cartoon portrays a society where older adults are free about their sexuality. The cartoon continues to keep a sexy societal image through mingling romantically without shying away. The image depicted by the cartoons shows an acceptable kind of sexual expression. It portrays a strong sexual message to society by displaying an outside influence on their emotional attachment ( Monto & Carey, 2014) . The importance of this cartoon image is that it can offer the young a lesson that displaying sexuality should not mean wearing a provocative dress and that they can stay with their sexuality interact for a longer time.

In conclusion, psychological, physiological, and sociocultural dimensions are essential in understanding sexuality among adults. The creation of a positive mentality among adults can encourage older people to open up about sexuality that younger people can learn. The positive outlook can help in changing attitudes concerning the sexuality of older adults. Most people disregard sexuality among the aged in society. Senior couples who are sexually active can help in motivating sexuality for aspiring couples in society.
