Field log
6.00am: Wake up, interact with husband and the kids.
Greet spouse and ask him how he slept, also ask the kid how they slept. Take a shower then prepare breakfast, and spouse ensures that the kids get ready to go to school. After preparation, we take breakfast as a family. Then the husband notices a leaking tap and goes to fixe it. After the meal, spouse drives the family car as we drop the kids to school and then he drops me at the airport.
8:00 am: Arrives at the airport, then check in with customer service
At the airport, some conspicuous structures guide people. Some of the structures guide people to enter and pay for the ticket if they do not have one. When someone gets into the airport, they line up to buy the ticket, and they are greeted by the attendant at the ticket area. Also, during the security checks, the TSA politely checks the luggage and allows individuals to board.

9:00 am: Patiently wait to board the flight
I proceed to the waiting lounge and sit next to a family watching and commenting on the news article on how Hitler hated the Jews and slaughtered many innocent people. The family comments that the people did not deserve to get tortured because they were very innocent.
9:30 am: On the flight sitting next to a family with two small children, the children refuse to sit down the mother attempts to calm them down while their father is reading a magazine. The air hostess offers to help and request the children to sit down promising to get them a snack, and they do so. Their mother thanks the flight attendant and she proceeds to get the snacks.
12:00 pm: We get to the destination, and I drive several hours to meet with close relatives. During the journey, there are fruit vendors and homeless people along the road which shows social inequality. The homeless people ask people for assistance to get jobs indicating the level of poverty in that area as they also lack shelter which is the primary need.
4:00 pm: Arrives at the house of the close relative, take potluck supper. We engage in looking at the family photos and portraits which we took in front of the family church, others while we were building weapons like swords and spears and others we took while hunting. Later on, we watch the television where the news broadcasts social deviance in which a there was robbery with violence at a local store. The robbers are said to have left with an unknown quantity of valuables and cash.
6: 00 pm: Visit the church to catch up with a close family friend with whom we have not spoken for some time. I see the people at the church dressed neatly and respectfully and also notice a group studying the bible reciting the Ten Commandments and the holy trinity – the church believes in one God. Inside the church, there are various religious symbols which include the crescent, David's star, and the cross. One of the bible study group members tells the group that an African American is building a church nearby to accommodate his fellow African Americans
How our day is shaped and constrained by social norms .
Social norms refer to people's expectations. Social norms observed during the day include greetings whenever we meet new people, people we have not seen in a long time and the morning with family members. Another social norm is the practice where the passengers are lining up and waiting patiently in the airport queues to acquire tickets while waiting for their turn. Also, another norm is the husband fixing the leaking tap, helping to prepare the kids for school and driving everyone to their destination. The group at the church taking part in Bible study and how the church members are neatly dressed gets seen as a social norm. Social norms influence people’s daily activities in that the relationship between a person's action and the actions of another may get affected by a third person, or the connection may exist since the three individuals have the same motivation in undertaking the activity hence, influencing the people's day. The relation between the individuals may represent a liking for the continuity of the norm. In that, the action of one person can be perceived as a result of the customs they observed from other people. But if the observed person represents those who take part in the tradition, then the act of creating and constituting the custom generates itself excluding the choice of the person. For instance, taking breakfast as a family in the morning may be as a result of a person's hunger or that the person anticipated the hunger making breakfast a habit, and not obligated by the person's societal norm. Also, the extent that the duration of the relationship is dependent on the same values and behavior. For instance, if a person continues the relationships with other individuals after having breakfast with them, then the other person customs get biased by their ideas which result to partner selection hence social norm shaping and constraining people's days (Bell, 2015).
Sociological concepts
The primary role of a family is to enable the continuation of society through biological means like procreation and socialization through social factors. From the field log, the family has children hence the family role is accomplished through reproduction. Also, when the family interacts with each other through greetings and having breakfast together, they were shaping the children socially. In Hammond (2010), he states that the global role of the family involves economic support where there is the provision of the necessities of life that is food, shelter and clothing and control reproduction whereby children are born,
Interaction refers to a dynamic altering structure of social actions occurring between two or more people or groups. Through communication, individuals come up with regulations, systems, and institutions in which they live by. In the field log, there is an interaction between the TSA and me through greetings, also with the close relatives and with my family.
Institutions refer to the regulations that get set to serve the interests of people and which enables the development of stable systems of groups that get ranked hierarchically. In the field log, inside the church, we notice there is a group of people undertaking Bible study in that when one speaks the other listens, and they come up with a collective understanding minimizing battle, and also there is probably a higher group than the bible study group in the church. According to Keizer (2008), the purpose of the institution is to channel the force of the society, reducing the status battle costs and holding the community together.

Reflect on your role as a larger part of society (i.e., your motives, instincts, feelings, and structural constraints). Discuss ways other people affected you and the ways you affected others in the social experiences of your day.
My role in the society is to be a person that respects people and leave a positive impact on the lives of those around me. Also, my role in the society should not depend on the political, economic, social and cultural opinion and beliefs since people are diverse. In daily life we meet many people who have different personalities: some are disappointing whereas some have a positive impact on our lives. Interacting with different kinds of people helps me accommodate and tolerate the diversity of different people. I love giving back to the community, and I participate in charity activities for my community since my community has physically challenged people, older adults, orphans, and widows.
