At times most readings tend to have an ending that is not expected by the reader that can be in any part of that article. When reading Swift’s A Modest proposal that is not left out as it also has a surprise ending. The entirety of this article talks how best the poor can be traded for human flesh and relive any country the burden of taking care of them such as avoiding paying rent for them, and riding beggars off our streets (Swift, 1729) . However, after the second last paragraph the author provides a surprise ending. The author changes his view abruptly and says that he is promoting trade of his country, has offers ideas about providing for the infants, and wants to relive the poor and give some form of pressure to the rich
The above is a totally turnaround of events from what’s the author was proposing in the article. The author was totally against the poor, and he saw them as unnecessary state burden that ought to be relived at the earliest or using whichever opportunity possible. In this article he provides some historical perspectives of how kings were valuable in the society and were given the best gifts. At some point the author illustrates how king could leave the ethics and value themselves more than other human beings. On that he cites an example where emperors would appreciate gifts of human flesh as one of the greatest honor of their lives (Swift, 1729). It shows a cultural setting that is real acceptable during renaissance time and cannot be excepted in the modern world though it was highly acceptable during those times an aspect that brings in the theme of change that has happened in the society,

When discussing, the author places the society’s cultural practices within an historic context. By doing so, the author is able to illustrate out how various viewpoints to issues in the society have changed. As mentioned above, things that were being viewed to be moral during those times are now being viewed differently. The intellectual capacity of the ancient human beings has changed since then. The religious practices though have remained with the same principles the viewpoints towards that are not similar to those days. The obedience the rulers’ authority was unquestionable and women were previously seen as breeders of more human beings. Nevertheless, that is not the case currently. In brief the reading provides a paradoxical view on how the poor were perceived by the rich. (Swift, 1729) It is an heart touching reading that is only reinforced by the authors surprise ending where he states his moral and ethical views on the show subject he was talking about.
