Globalization has created an environment that is conducive for exports and imports. Due to the policies that have been implemented there is a huge rise in both exports and imports. This rise has directly affected the number of employees working internationally. According to Bialik (2017), in 2007 foreign owned companies employed 5.5 million workers in the United States, and this number grew to 6.8 million by 2015. These companies almost always have sister companies in other parts of the world. Employees from one country have to travel to the other countries for various reasons.
A strategy that can be used to make certain that employees are capable of working in another country is providing them with a home and host sponsor who serves as a point person. These point people must have experience working abroad; which results in them being knowledgeable, understanding and empathetic regarding working in another country. The point person can help by sharing their experiences, giving more information of what the assignment entails and ways to navigate any potential problems (Molinsky & Hahn, 2016). The employee will have a certain level of comfort knowing that they can easily talk to the point person, because these people have likely gone through whatever they are going through. Before the employees leave they can sit with the point person to learn about the cultures, the dos and don’ts and any other vital information.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Another important strategy is identifying the right people for such tasks. Not everybody is able to work outside the country. According to Molinsky & Hahn (2016), the company must choose an individual who possess certain qualities. One of them is, the person must be open-minded; going to a different country that has its own way of doing things can be a shock for some people. Having someone who is open to learning and adapting to a new environment is important. Another quality is that they must be committed, learning and trying to adapt to a new culture has its difficulties. It requires one who is committed and willing to see it through.
