The communication skills quiz that was undertaken originated from mindtools.com. My score of 53 indicates that am a good communicator. According to mindtool, a score of between 36 and 55 indicates that one is a proficient communicator although sometimes there is the capability of having communication issues. The communication quiz indicated that one need to concentrate on the approach to communication and pay key attention to receiving and sending information and messages effectively ( Mindtools, 2017) . The question that had the lowest score is “When I write a memo, email, or other documents, I give all of the background information and detail I can to make sure that my message is understood.” The main focus was concentrating on whether the message was clearly comprehended and this meant that paying attention to the background information was not equal to that of understanding the message. By understanding the background and the audience that is going to receive the message, the communicator can be more efficient in the activities of communication.
Developing the communication skills that had the lowest score would require analyzing information skills training. Evaluating the background information is very important since it will help the communicator stop conveying information that is not important to the conversation. The skill can be improved through attending seminars or using websites like mindtool.com that provides questions to improve the communication skills. It usually incorporates the “keep it simple and straightforward” skill that shows that giving irrelevant information wastes time for the recipient as well as confuse them ( Mindtools, 2017) . Some of the skills that were not covered in the quiz and are crucial to a professional life are the use of noun - verbal communication skills whereby a speaker will be required to provide a question and answer while speaking.
