A social worker is a profession which aims at helping people, groups, communities, and families to assist them to fulfill their goals and improve their well-being (Shuttlesworth, 2015). Many individuals and families in the community are suffering and needs help; this has raised the need for social responsibility as many people are touched and ready to help the needy in the societies and ensure that they make their lives comfortable. Social workers help the abused and oppressed in the community and ensure that justice is administered to them (Greene, 2008). Recently many organizations and volunteers are supporting the social work, and this has led to the successfulness of the social worker. Since when I was ten years old, I have been involved in social work, seen individuals and children suffer made uncomfortable, and this raised my desire to help the disadvantaged and poor kids in my community; with parents support social worker has been my greatest wish since childhood.
Making a decision on which profession one wants to be in is a difficult task to many, but for me, it has been the easiest task; this is because I have and am always interested in helping the less privileged people around me. The gender, race, age, or sex of the individual does not lure me to helping, but I always offer help to anyone I see being troubled or suffering. Am a teacher, and this has facilitated so much in my profession to become a social worker; I like to talk to students and help where necessary. Have been involved in several volunteer activities where I go and give out clothes and food to the orphans and children in the orphanages and children’s home and offer them guidance and counseling where necessary, and give them hope and motivation. Even as a teenager I used to attend to social work seminars and conferences and this shaped my mind and motivated me more to be a social worker; my parents are grateful and support me in this profession I have chosen.

I have been involved in organizations that support social work and played vital roles in helping the team; there was a project we carried out last year which aimed at helping the aged and offering guidance and counseling to the mentally distressed and the people with disability. Although this was not an easy task a challenging one we tried and succeeded; my role was a policy planning specialist. As the master planner, I ensured that I planned everything well and this made the operation successful with many people in the organization congratulating me and advising me to take the social worker as a profession. Because they saw a lot of capabilities in me; this motivated me more and that why I am choosing the social worker as my profession. The older are not taken as important in the society and thus why we carried the operation to educate people on why they should take good care of the aged because having been older means they have passed through a lot and have real experience of life and they can help them to tackle their daily problems. We also encouraged the aged as they faced a lot of challenges when growing old and told them how important they are and showed them some love and care which made them feel good.
As a social worker am interested in fields such as community social workers, children, and family social work. These three areas of my interest because I loved children even when I was a kid I loved my fellow kids and when I saw them suffering I felt I suffered too. Children need to be loved, cared for and helped especially the disabled ones who feels neglected; I want to help these kids and make them know that they are worthy just like the other children. I also want to help children to understand their capabilities and help them in their education by encouraging them to study hard and help raise school fees for those who do not have and assist them in securing their education. As a social worker, I will ensure that every individual in communities is recognized and no individual will be oppressed or denied their rights because I will assure every person enjoys and gets his/her rights. Many families are diminishing due to domestic violence, divorces, and family problems. As a social worker, I will ensure that the cases of domestic violence comes to an end and solve problem issues by offering guidance and counseling to couples on how to solve their problems without fighting or divorce and also how to run their families and live a happy life together as one.
New York University School of Social Work best suits my educational needs; this is because it offers a comprehensive education in social work profession with partnerships with many public and non-public organizations and this increase students’ knowledge by providing them with volunteer work through those agencies. As a social worker student at New York University, I help my fellow students to achieve their goals of encouraging them to work voluntarily and contribute to improving their communities. I will also form groups with the social work students aiming at helping and improving the school's community; we will work on ensuring that the environment is clean and that we offer guidance and counseling to the other students in the school. With my interest in the social work profession, it will be easy to manage the rigorous demands of the course; I have worked with volunteer organization on the field, it will be easy to administer field education since it will not be something new as I am used to it.
