Weight loss is a critical health behavior that I have been grappling with for sometimes ever since I was in the 6th grade. Despite my younger age presently, my body weight is slightly above 110kgs, thus raising serious health concerns (Glanz, Rimer&Viswanath, 2008). Considering that the current body weight has incapacitated in various aspects and significantly affected my self-esteem, weight loss is the appropriate health behavior that I will embrace to manage my body weight effectively. This paper will outline the weight loss health behavior that am targeting to change for myself. I intend to significantly reduce my body weight from the current 110kgs to not more than 70kgs for the next six months.

Description of the Prevalence

It is worrying that at the age of 21 years, my body weight is slightly above 110kgs. This is disturbing since I am considered among my peers to be overweight, an aspect that has greatly affected my self-esteem. The body overweight program is a serious concern to me. It has incapacitated me to effectively perform some of the normal routines am expected to undertake at my age. At my age, the standard body weight should range between 65kgs to 85kgs. However, this is not the case with me considering that I have been grappling with the overweight body problem. Even in our family, I am the only overweight sibling, a phenomenon that has prompted me to explore appropriate weight loss alternatives to be healthy as the rest others. Considering my overweight body, I find it difficult to jog or even do lighter exercises. Therefore, the prevalence of this behavior has greatly impacted on my mobility and the ability to associate freely with others without being incapacitated.

Current Baseline Level of the Behavior

I presently weigh slightly over 110kgs. As such, the overweight body is a serious concern at a personal level. The body overweight problem has incapacitated my ability to freely associate and relate with others. It is for this reason that I intend to cut down my weight within six months to a minimum of 70kgs.

Previous Experiences in Changing the Behavior

I have made several attempts to reduce my body weight but the impact has been insignificant. This is primarily attributed to the fact that I did not embrace the right lifestyle that could enable me to effectively reduce weight. In this regard, I am convinced that the previous experiences have been unsuccessful due to my reluctance to avoid sugar and carbohydrates in my diet (Glanz, 2015). Furthermore, I was also not willing to avoid fried food and other fast foods such as chips. This is because besides embarking on the journey to reduce weight previously, I still consumed fast foods and sugar regularly, thus leading to the ineffectiveness of the entire exercise.

Possible Negative Consequences

The weight loss behavior I have embraced is likely to have both positive and negative consequences. Considering that I have struggled with the problem of an overweight body from the 8th grade, there is a likelihood that my conscience will take a slightly longer time to adjust due to weight loss (Green &Thorogood, 2018). It is also likely to draw curious reactions and concerns from some of my close friends.

Benefits of Changing Behavior

Embracing weight loss will enable me to regain self-esteem. As a result, I will be more bold and confident when interacting with others (Montano &Kasprzyk, 2015). The behavior change is also likely to boost my health. This is because I will be free from likely medical complications such as heart problems.

Confidence in Changing the Behavior

I am determined to lose my weight from the current 110kgs to not more than 70kgs within the next six months (DiClemente, Salazar & Crosby, 2018). Unlike the previous attempts, I am determined to change my lifestyle and diet to achieve this behavior change.

Conclusion

The body overweight problem is a serious concern that should be addressed holistically. Therefore, successful behavior change in such a case will be determined by the willingness of an individual to radically change their lifestyle and diets for the effective management of their weight.
