My concept is to conduct a non-profit project that involves breast cancer patients, volunteers and survivors, to educate the public, create awareness about breast cancer and promote cancer screening that would be beneficial to the patients along with their kins. In order to effectively implement this concept, it is critical to identify reliable sources of information that will promote the understanding of breast cancer patient needs, their demographics, any factors that affect their treatment behaviors and also the hindrances cancer patients face when seeking necessary help ( Jemal & Siegel et. al, 2007 ).

First, a publication of American Cancer Society will come in handy to provide crucial insights into breast cancer. This source is important because dealing with cancer patients requires that one clearly comprehends their situation from all perspectives; medical, social, financially and psychologically ( American Cancer Society, 2008 ). This know-how enhances the effectiveness of any actions focused on improving the lives of the patients as well as impacting positively on the general population.

Additionally, breast cancer statistics are important to understand the extent to which it has affected the population along with other features such as trends and changes in cancer rates in the United States. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention research materials will illustrate these statistics in forms that are easy to read and interpret. The reliability of information from CDC is enhanced by the fact that the data shown considers 100% of the population in U.S ( Centers for Disease Control, & Prevention, 2000 ).

Utilization of two sources of statistics, CDC and National Cancer Institute will enable comparison and enhance understanding of the information ( Ries & Harkins et. al, 2006 ). Another useful resource is Community Preventive Services Task Force which entails group education aimed at promoting cancer screening and motivating participants ( US Preventive Services Task Force, 1989 ). These source is in line with the idea of non-profit project because it will also involve education of the cancer patients.
