Xie, Z., &Or, C. (2017). Associations between waiting times, service times, and patient satisfaction in an endocrinology outpatient department: A time study and questionnaire survey.  INQUIRY: The Journal of Health Care Organization, Provision, and Financing 54 , 0046958017739527. Retrieved from: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0046958017739527

In this article, the authors' main interest is to look into the association between the actual waiting time in the hospital, and the perceived implication it has on the outcome of the services as well as the patients' perception concerning such services. The question the authors seek to answer is whether the patients perceive waiting time positively or negatively and whether they tie the waiting time with the outcome of the hospitals' services. The results from the research study revealed that even though patients look more into the quality of services they get, the waiting time is less appealing to them. It can result in dissatisfaction that can lead to the hospitals losing some of its customers as well as inducing a bad image. The article is, therefore, critical for the topic. They will use it to support the idea that the time patients wait to get beds in the hospital can be detrimental to the hospital production process.

The authors present a framework that can be used by the hospital to implement a production process to make its functions effectively and reduce the wastage of time. The authors present a six sigma model and showcase the stages and strategies of implementing it in the department, such as radiology, to increase patients satisfaction and also reduce the waiting time in such departments.
