Elliott (2016) defines self-defense as the act of defending one wellbeing and health against aggressive attack from an enemy. The bible also affirms what the Castle doctrine says in terms of self-defense. In the book of Nehemiah 4:11-15, God affirmed that we should be ready to defend ourselves in cases of attack and external aggression, but not with intention of killing. The concept of self-defense in the bible is clearly elaborated in the book of Exodus 22:2-3, the bible states the if a thief is found breaking into someone’s houses, gets stuck or he even dies, the homeowner will not be liable for the death of the thief. Even the bible doesn’t condone acts of aggressive violence and breaking into someone’s home and endangering lives. The bible continues to affirm that the thief will actually pay, and the pay will be punishable by only God. Murder is unlawful of killing someone without reason (Scheb, 2020). The bible condemns the acts of murder even in acts of self-defense. In the book of Leviticus, the bible says that whoever kills someone intentionally despite the proved reasons, he or she shall be put to death also during the days of judgment. Also in the book of Mathew 26:52, the bible distances itself in murder when Jesus told his brethren’s to put back their swords, for all who kill by the sword will be ultimately be killed. Biblical standpoint on whether one can save his/her life at the expense another’s life is clearly elaborated in the book of Exodus 21:12; God defines it as murder regardless what the person was threatening to do. God said that when a man fires a gun with intention to kill, its murder irrespective of the threat the person. The law of God doesn’t support such acts of murder. In the Bible acts of crime were imminent. In the book of Samuel, David committed adultery and murder. Adultery is an act of having sexual acts with a married woman (In Walvoord et al., 2018). When David saw Bathsheba bathing, he developed lust and later had sexual acts with Bathsheba bathing knowing well that she was married to Uriah. These actions by David were adulterous. After forcefully marrying Bathsheba knowing well she was a married woman, David went ahead and killed Uriah; this is an act of murder committed by David. The bible extensively condemns acts of adultery and murder in the books of Exodus 20:14 and Romans 13:9 respectively. Elements of crime in the aforementioned crimes are adultery with Bathsheba and murder or Uriah, husband to Bathsheba. Elements of crime are the key to a successful administration of a lawsuit. The two crimes that David committed are familiar in our modern era adultery and murder cases. Recently we have had crimes related to murder acts David committed to Uriah, Bathsheba’s husband in the bible. According to United States Department of Justice (2021, par. 1), James Michael shot and killed a woman in Philpott Park in July 10, 2020. This an example of equivalent murder case in the modern society. Also in August 2019, a Las Vegas man was charged and sentenced due to murder crimes; Ely Shoshone Tribe was indicted on murder of a three year old girl. The jury said that it was a first degree murder case. Compared to my home state Detroit USA, crimes such as murder and adultery are punishable under the USA laws. In Detroit adultery is a minor offense and attracts lesser jail term and fine. Murder in Detroit is punishable under section 18 U.S Code Chapter 51 statutes of the USA laws.
