How to Design and Use Organizational Surveys?

Researching the various processes of conducting surveys has proven to be an interesting field of study. The process of surveying consists of different and intricate types that can be used in the collection of data and information (Anderson, 2016). One of these methods entails the use of questionnaires. Questionnaires can be presented in two main ways. There is the use of hard copies (commonly referred to as the old-school type) and the use of digital forms where individuals can answer online questions to provide personal data and information. In undertaking this research, I have come to realize that there is a way in which questions used for questionnaires are developed. Surveys questions can be delivered in an open-ended or close-ended manner. Close-ended questions are the ones whose answers are required to be concise and straight to the point such as yes/no or right/wrong. On the other hand, open-ended questions provide a platform whereby the parties can present more elaborative answers regarding the question asked. Therefore, in conducting the research on the process of surveying I have been able to learn about the fundamental ways of presenting questions in a survey. Presenting questions in the right manner is crucial in determining the accuracy and clarity of the information collected from the answers provided. 

The process of surveying could also involve the use of interviews in collecting information. Interviews have been known to be a more probing and more personal type of survey. Through the conduction of interviews, the researcher is provided with a platform to ask in-depth questions with the main purpose of gaining deeper insights on the issue being studied. Interviews also provide a one on one opportunity for the surveyor to collect information on a first-hand basis for the face-to-face types. The advantage of this concept is that it eliminates all the possibilities of information being distorted as the interviewee is given the space to convey himself or herself elaborately and efficiently. Interviews can also be conducted online and have proven to play a vital role in the collection of organizational information. However, during this research study, I have come to the realization that they are mostly considered time-consuming and not resourceful in terms of finances (Roeser & Kern, 2015). Overall, the process of conducting surveys in organizations requires interviews to help in gathering the most accurate facts on given issues. These have been the major accomplishments that I have attained in preparing to research on the topic of conducting surveys. The accomplishments are vital as they outline the best channels to use in collecting information in an organizational setting.

However, despite these accomplishments, there have been a few ethical issues associated with the research study. In conducting this research, there are ethical core values needed to be strictly observed. These ethical core values include; informed consent, beneficence, respect for the community, and respect for privacy and anonymity. Informed consent, also referred to as respect for autonomy, is a major ethical issue that relates to researches and surveys. While carrying out this research, I have learned that it will be crucial to involve and get the consent of the people involved in the research. These people will intelligently, knowingly and voluntarily choose to take part in the study or not (Vitak, Shilton, & Ashktorab, 2016, February). Adhering to the ethical principle of informed consent will ensure that the research upholds the autonomy of all the individuals who choose to take part in the research study. 

According to Roberts (2015), beneficence is an ethical principle that refers to the ideology of “be of benefit, not harm”. The meaning of this is that the research should be conducted with the sole purpose of benefitting those involved in the study and should not harm them in any way. Respect for the community is a principle that requires the research to support the cultural, societal, and political makeup of the community where the survey will be conducted (Roberts, 2015). Therefore, in conducting my research, it will be fundamental to ensure that the activities are conducted within the available guidelines that show respect for the community. The final issue associated with this research entails upholding personal privacy and anonymity. In carrying out this survey, it will be vital to ensure that the privacy of every person is safeguarded and the information they provide is not made public under any circumstances. In that regard, it will be critical to seek regulatory approval before conducting the survey to avoid any ethical concerns that may arise. 

The main methods used in the creation of the study are observation and sampling of information collected from the individuals who took part in the survey. Based on the types of surveys mentioned in this discussion, observation will be mostly happening during the conduction of interviews whereas sampling will be done on the information collected from the issued questionnaires (Church & Waclawski, 2017). These methods were selected as they provide the best possible avenues for gathering the most accurate and truthful information needed in guaranteeing the success of the research. 

The primary intention of piloting the survey is to help in gaining a deeper incentive in the most effective ways of achieving organizational success. The pilot audience for this research is made up of individuals actively involved in fulfilling day-to-day activities in an organizational setting. These individuals will provide the best avenue to collect information that is correct and accurate for the survey. The major cost associated with this survey is the handing out of appreciation hampers to all the individuals who took their time to play a vital part in ensuring its success. 

In conclusion, I believe that this survey will reveal findings that are vital in improving the performance and cooperation of organizations. The main reason being that through the opinions presented by those who took part in the study, organizations can use the information to improve areas that need changes to help in attaining better overall organization performance and increased productivity.
