What did you identify about yourself related to these 8 areas and were you surprised about any of your findings?
After completing the emotional intelligence test by Mark Daniel, I uncovered interesting characteristics about myself. First, I discovered that I am emotionally literate because I can master emotions, but they are often misguided and unsympathetic. I was surprised with this finding because I thought I had no problem using my emotions suitably. Another surprising finding from the test is that I have problems creating a precise appreciation of myself. From the score, it is possible that my assertiveness and aggression is evidence of a poor self-image (Daniel, 1999). I usually considered myself an introvert, but after taking the test I have realized that I constantly mistrust myself.

How have your findings from taking the test impacted your self-awareness about your leadership skills?
The findings from the test have affected my self-awareness about my leadership skills because I have identified areas that I need to improve. Though the test score have shown me to emotionally intelligent, I must learn to control my emotions and trust myself more. As a consequence, I must develop more empathy to be able to understand others’ feelings, concern, and needs (Daniel, 1999).
What areas do you think you need to work on to improve your effectiveness as a leader or future leader?
The areas that I must improve to be an effective leader include communication, leadership, team capabilities, and development of empathy, which are essential characteristics required of a nurse leader (Roussel, Thomas & Harris, 2019).
What additional formal education do I need after I complete my BSN degree to improve my leadership skills?
The formal education that I need after completing my BSN degree to enhance my leadership include completing a master’s degree in nursing and a PhD Degree in nursing. Upon completion of these two education levels, I will be able to be a Director and an Executive Nurse Leader.
Do I currently have a written lifelong learning education plan to improve my leadership skills and if I do what do I need to change or add to my plan?
Though I currently have a written .lifelong education plan to enhance my leadership skills, I would like to add knowledge of the healthcare environment and business skills to the plan. These skills would be useful in the current dynamic healthcare environment (Roussel et al., 2019).
What leadership roles would I like to advance into over the next 3 - 5 years and what formal education degree do I need to position myself to be in these roles.
The leadership roles that I would like to advance into in the next 3 to 5 years are Nurse Leader and Executive Nurse Leader. These would require a master’s and a doctoral degree respectively.
