Bea Proud is a project aimed at eradicating intimate partner violence among LGBTQ couples in Southeastern Michigan. To enable continuation of the plan, Bea Proud has formed the The Hospital Accompaniment Response Team (HART) program to address the non-medical needs of patients of domestic violence. At the same time, counseling services provide therapeutic and recreation facilities to mitigate the effects of abuse. Considering that financial security plays a significant role in influencing intimate partner violence, the organization is also a career development center that helps survivors of abuse with education secure professional opportunities. The staffs at the organization are trained to offer a wide range of services, including individual counseling, follow-ups, legal advocacy, and 24-hour crisis line. Additionally, the vision of the organization is creating a society where everyone is informed about domestic violence. Intimate partners are able to take responsibility for themselves and their children.
Bea proud will also leverage community resources to enable sustainability of its mission. Every year, the agency serves approximately many domestic violence survivors in the LGBTQ community. This could not be possible without the help of grants and generous donations (monetary or items donated based on the wish list posted on the site) from those within the community. The administration of Bea Project has developed strategies to ensure the areas in which it is located if free of domestic violence. By educating the community about domestic violence, people can understand the concept of victimization of women and children, and the effect of intimate partner violence on the community as a whole. Notably, many LGBTQ couples in Southeast Michigan are involved in violent relationships; hence, the strategy of teen outreach helps build healthy behavior and develop skills to navigate the challenges of domestic violence. Lastly, legal action aims at punishing perpetrators of family violence and deterring the recurrence of the crimes.
